Chuck Schumer: Drug-Like Bath Salts Should Be Banned

Chuck Schumer Bath Salt Drug Ban

01/30/11 07:15 AM ET   AP

ALBANY, N.Y. — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer of New York says he wants the federal government to ban new designer drugs known as bath salts that pack as much punch as cocaine or methamphetamines.

The small, inexpensive packets of powder are meant to be snorted for a hallucination-inducing high, but they are often marketed with a wink on the Internet or in convenience stores as bathing salts.

The Democratic senator is announcing a bill Sunday that would add those chemicals to the list of federally controlled substances. He is also pushing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to ban the substance in the state.

A handful of states have already banned the active ingredients in the powders.

Schumer says the bath salts "contain ingredients that are nothing more than legally sanctioned narcotics."

WARNING, ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING TRYING THIS PRODUCT, DON'T. I AM AN EXPERIENCED COCAINE USER AND IM TELLING YOU THAT THIS AVAILABILITY, STREGNTH, POSENCY/PRICE OF THIS PRODUCT MAKES IT MORE DANGEROUS THAN COKE OR METH IN MY OPINION. IT IS EXTREEMLY ADDICTIVE, EXREEEMLY. I AM PEROSNALLY TRYING TO SHUT DOWN THE TOBACCO SHOPS THAT ARE SELLING THESE TO 18 YEAR OLDS WHO SAW IT ON THE NEWS (LIKE I DID) AND DIDN'T BELIEVE IT COULD BE AS "REAL" AS IT IS, BUT IT IS. WRITE YOUR CONGRASMAN OR RALLY INFRONT OF THE TOBACCO SHOPS TO HELP PUT AN END TO THIS, AND REMEMBER THIS IS COMMING FROM SOMEONE WITH YEARS OF EXPIRIENCE WITH COCIANE.

Grandma wont be bathing much in 500mg of powder... these are not bath salts that u would find anywhere legit, they are in 1 inch tall plastic cylinders and contain 500mg (.5grams) for $25 30 dollars for flat packets of 1 gram for $50 dollars. marketed as "bath salts " OR "potent plant fertilizers" they almost all contain MDPV. and let me tell you something. I am an experienced cocaine and crack user and one of these .5 gram bshops and "head shops" (though its mostly in your cheesy tobacco store that sells crack pipes) to carry this alllow this product anymore. wiki mdpv to learn more about how its "4 times stronge than ritalin" and Iimiitates cocaine and methamphetamine. I do not think it is right for gas stations to sell these products to unsuspecting teenagers, who (like me) saw this on the news and though it was BS, only to find out its EXTREEMLY STRONG AND ADDICTING AND DANGEROUS" PLEASE WRITE YOUR CONGRASSMAN OR RALLY TO HAVE THESE REMOVED FROM OUR COUNTRY

"MDPV (marketed as Ivory Wave and Energy-1). But also commonly found inside that "instant spa at home" is Mephedrone, aka 4-Methylmethcathinone, a compound very similar in structure to Methamphetamine. It's marketed with names like Bounce, Bubbles, M-CAT, Mad Cow, and Meow Meow."

The addictive personality will be a mess with this drug...it can be injected, snorted, mixed and eaten. It is cheap, legal, and considered a high comparable to coke, methamphetamine. I don't know what the DEA/FDA will do with this drug, but one thing is for sure: The kids abusing it need help - not jail.

Everyone knows how well the other drug bans are working. All that this would do is create a new product on the black market.

Which of the three branches of government should take the lead on this? House, Senate or the President? He really said that!! These are the three branches of goverment according to Schumer. Guess he got a pass on taking government classes in school.

Chuck Schumer needs to be banned.

The only drug he needs to ban is whatever the people that keep voting for him are smoking.

OK - let's say they are legally sanctioned nacrotics - so what? Is Schumer saying we should reclassify them so doctors can prescribe them and make more money under Obamacare. Is he saying they are competition for legally prescibed nacrotoics and shold there fore be eliminated, is he sayingwe should reclassifythem so we cantax them correctly or is he saying we shuld take bath salts underground or just that it should be a crime to take a bath? What arethis guy's personla hygiene habits i don;tknow

Schumer is such a joke - the only thing he ever passes is inconsequential - why doesn't he go after the high rate of interest on credit cards!
