Ikram Goldman To Receive 'Legend Of Fashion' Award

Ikram Goldman is set to receive the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Legend of Fashion Award, WWD reports. Come May 5, Goldman will be presented with the honor by Sally Singer, the editor of T: The New York Times Style Magazine.

SAIC Fashion Design Department Chair Nick Cave told TheFeast.com, "Ikram is the perfect choice for this award. She is a visionary, not only within the world of fashion, but within the world of art and culture. A visionary doesn't function solely in the present, but sees into the future. Ikram has that ability. She functions from a place that is about growth and about one's life continuing to evolve, reform, and reshape itself."

Anna Sui, Nicole Miller and Maria Pinto have previously received the award.

Although neither Goldman nor the first lady have publicly discussed their relationship, Goldman was dubbed her unofficial stylist, since the New York Times ran an article about the boutique owner in February 2009. However, website Mrs. O recently speculated that Michelle has moved out from under from Ikram's wing and might be taking wardrobe advice from White House aide Meredith Koop. And in a recent piece Cathy Horyn also remarked, "For what it's worth, I hear that Ikram Goldman, the Chicago retailer, is no longer directly involved with Mrs. Obama's wardrobe, since December."
