U.S. Snowstorm Seen From Space: Wild Weather Captured By NASA (PHOTOS)

*See Photos Below*

This is what the snowstorm blanketing much of the country looks like right now.

The storm, which is covering a third of the U.S., is captured in the following images by NASA's Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Terra satellite as well as the GOES-13 satellite.

From NASA:

Visible and infrared images and animations of the storm's clouds and movement are created every 15 minutes by the NASA GOES Project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. using data from GOES-11 and GOES-13, the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites. The GOES-13 and GOES-11 satellites that cover the eastern and western U.S., respectively, are operated by NOAA.

The photos give a more complete picture of just how much of the country is covered by clouds (much of which includes snow), in stunning detail. The storm even seems to stretch coast-to-coast.

The Earth is beautiful, no matter what. Grandiose. Same as President Obama is the current One to be President, no matter what.
How do we know whether this weather condition is the outcome of natural weather cycle or that of extreme weather condition of global warming?

Truly astounding and beautiful. At least from space. That cloud cover doesn't even hint at the amount of snow on the ground. I'm curious as to whether a similar phenomena will occur next year.

As much as I am tired of the snow it sure is a beauty seen from space.

I am so glad this did not turn out like the Day after Tomorrow: The Salt Lake City Public Library is made out of glass, no surviving there!

Well, i'd like to say "We told you so" to climate change, but i know it's not the people's fault. It's Fox news and the republican party, but hey, what else is new?

There is only one way that we as the human race can survive this. We have to stand up for ourselves and take power from those in power. Egypt is already starting this, we must follow through on a global scale. Liberal, Democrat, Republican, Conservative, what a bunch of garbage, it's all there to control you, two sides of the same coin. Bidding for control over the CEO Job of slavery incorporated. The truth is out there but they lay it out like a buffet of lies, and I'm not going to take a bite out of it.

Not going to say a word about climate change. Can't do anything about it anyway, since we have so many folks blocking attempts. Just going to tell all you guys buried in snow to stay cheerful and keep your feet warm. Meantime, feel free to come spend some time in California -- there's very little snow here and we sure could use the money!

Thanks, but I hate earthquakes and wildfires.
02:32 PM on 02/04/2011
well, fortunately, we don't happen to be suffering either of those right now.
it's supposed to be in the 70's this weekend in the bayarea...nice :)

Can't wait to read through the comments & see how many times our science-haters have posted this is proof there's no global warming--"cuz it's cold!"

Sarah, where are you, dear?

weather basics: storms are created when warm air meets cool air. we are experiencing the hottest decade on record. all this stored up heat if you will, meets with the cooler air (atmosphere holds huge cold pockets btw) and starts all this mess.
more severe storms (think US right now) and floods (think recent aussie floods) and colder winters are symptoms of global warming.

I can't wait to see how many of you faithful members of the first church of AGW headed by the politician Al Gore call snow warmth caused by CO2.
