A number of these so called odd roads are on steep slopes and so have to zig zag. If they went straight down the mountain all the cars and trucks would burn out their brakes going down and good luck going up particularly after a little snow. My point is that it isn't odd to snake a road on a steep slope.

I don't have a good picture of it, but the road from Aguas Calientes To Machu Picchu is similar to that last one in Mexico, back and forth across the mountain. Tight turns for the buses taking you to the ruins. Glad I wasn't driving... plus I could enjoy the views.

What was weird about Baldwin Street in New Zealand? It looked normal to me.

Lombard isn't as unique as one might think. Vermont Street in San Francisco has tighter turns than Lombard. Vermont just doesn't get the press that Lombard does.

I heard of The Magical Roundabout in Swindon, England. It is the most strangest roundabout I have ever seen and the most confusing to navigate. At least roundabouts are easier to navigate than many people think and are good for the environment.

I don't think the one in Leipzig is so strange. There is a road like that at DFW airport.

Google "Hana Hwy pics" in Maui, Hawaii. It is more "weird" and insane than any of the roads featured here. :)

My guess is that it's a very extreme incline.

The fact that cars have to zigzag all the way up or down that hill at the end of the flat road.

WTF are you talking about?

What is so weird about that Baldwin Street?

It is really, really steep. You can't tell from the picture. I stayed at a hostel there for a few days and it seriously was the steepest road I'd ever seen.

I think it's the fact that cars have to zigzag all the way up or down that hill at the end of the flat road.
