What's The Worst Cell Phone On Earth?

First Posted: 02/04/11 09:06 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

According to Slate's Farhad Manjoo, that dubious distinction goes to MetroPCS' Samsung Craft.

Manjoo couldn't say enough bad things about the 4G phone in a review for Slate.

"It's a nightmare," he wrote. "I'd call it the worst cell phone I've ever used, but to do so would woefully undersell the sadists who've unleashed this little gadget of horrors upon an unsuspecting public. Everything about this phone seems designed not just to frustrate users but to get us to swear off ever using any phone again. Yes, the Craft is so terrible that I've started to spin conspiracy theories around its release."

The phone is "so bad you couldn't pay me to use it," concludes Manjoo.

While Manjoo has dubbed the Craft the "worst cell phone on earth," each user has their own opinion on what mobile phone is the world's most terrible device.

There's an entire website, WorstPhoneEver.com, dedicated to the iPhone, while ComputerWorld dubbed Microsoft's ill-fated Kin the "worst phone ever."

my ancient rotary dial phone is the best ... yes, I've missed all the hoopla ... but I never miss a beat when it comes to smelling the roses.

Motorolla Backflip if definitely the worst. The problems are too large to list. ATT has to refer you to Motrolla tech b/c they don't know what to do with it. Then Motorolla tech NEVER calls you back

This list fails to scratch even the sruface of the immense cauldron of sucktown that is every single MS mobile phone.. These phones, bad as they may be, cannnot be as bad as the abomination MS calls a mobile OS.

I'm noticing a pattern.. all of the 'worst cell phones in the world' are cheap, pieces of garbage that manufacturers only make to placate the financially challenged people in the world.

Don't want a crappy cell phone? Then spend some money instead of picking up the latest Free crap for signing a new two year contract from your service provider.

I used to have an LG EnV Touch, the touchscreen was so horrible I couldn't even scroll through my contacts list without calling 2 or 3 people by accident.

AT&T Quickfire is the WORST

In my opinion.. what we should work on now is weight of phones; instead of trying to make them more smaller and compact. When you get the phone with the pull-out QWERTY keyboard, the phone then tends to be a little heavy on the hands after quite a little bit of time. So I think that we should make phones lighter and more the less "keyboard-heavy" in the future.

Yeah.. that.. would work. But I was talking about actually changing the weight of the actual phone. Well, not changing it... but improving weight, therefore making it more compact all in all.

"The first one had a screen that failed to reorient itself from landscape to portrait when the keyboard was slid closed. This one fails to display alerts when I get a text message." THE HORROR! For one who grew up with Dick Tracy wrist radios as a fantasy of a far away future, modern technology is mind-boggling but still falls way behind my amusement at people's continued predilection to be dissatisfied with whatever they have.

Motorola--hands down!
And the "non-flip" phones are definitely pains in the arse to use. You have to lock the keypad to keep the phone from playing "ghost dial.

For me, I'd rather go with a flipper--and a plan I trust (Net10 or Virgin).

My curve 8330 has suffered horrific abuse but keeps on going as long as I take it to the service center for a new trackball every 6 months. My wife hurled it across the room in a fit of anger and they both went to pieces. I put it back together, cracked screen, no problem. It has been in the lake with me. Set it out on the dashboard for a few days in the sun and then powered it up! It has been dropped a few thousand times. Its strength is data, weakness is the actual phone call feature. Its almost like they remembered the voice call feature as an afterthought. Voice call quality could be much better. All in all ,for the money, it has been a good phone. Internet, GPS, text, video, camera, email and tons of goofy apps available. I would like to have an EVO but since I live in Kansas, 4G probably won't reach our border until 2020. Anybody like their EVO?

I really like my EVO though on my first experience I wasn't crazy about the no-keyboard feature until I experienced the swype technology on the Samsung Epic (which has a slide out keyboard). The Epic was heavier and I never used the slide out keyboard so I switched back to EVO with swype and couldn't be happier. It's amazingly fast (even with 4G in my area yet), lightweight (I have little hands) and easy to use plus it looks pretty. lol Yeah I think Sprint is running a sham charging me for 4G I can't yet access but overall I'm contented.

BlackBerry Bold? Really? All the other BlackBerries, many of which are virtually identical to the Bold, are essential and efficient communication tools that millions of professionals rely on 24-7, but the Bold is one of the worse cell phones ever? Really?

Let's hear about which ones we think are best. I have my first cell phone ever (Trac phone doesn't count). It's a Droid Incredible and I'm having a great time with it.

Tracfone sure does count! That's what I use. The battery sucks, but it's held up for almost 2 years so far. It does what it's supposed to--make calls.

I went to Tracfone after paying way too much for contract service with Cellular One and AT&T.
