Glenn Beck In A Cape (PHOTO, VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/05/11 10:09 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

Glenn Beck is known for doing bizarre things sometimes--such as threatening to cut a bunny in half with a chainsaw--and his Friday show opened on what might be one of his strangest stunts. Beck was wearing a cape--or cloak, or robe, depending on how you look at it--and holding a staff.

He told viewers that, if they hadn't been frightened watching his shows on Egypt all week, "you will be" after watching Friday's show. (He said these words in a Yoda-like voice.) But he gave no explanation as to why he was dressed the way he was, and after the opening credits, the cape and staff had disappeared. Was Beck casting himself as a latter-day Moses? Or Gandalf? Or Dumbledore? Or even Yoda? We'll never know.

I am not to certain that Beck is legally certifiable. I think he senses that his ship is sinking and he will do and be anything and anyone to keep it afloat. If he is tipping toward insanity, then it is an aspect of craziness that successfully mirrors that of a good-sized segment of the American people. His ratings are down, but they are still enormous. Without immediately lurching toward insult, how can this be understood? How can so many people take him seriously? Who and what are these Americans? What do they find attractive about him?

They are the product of the dumbing down of America. Glad I received my education decades ago before that really took effect.

Who are the sad, anti-social, unloved, people who watch this drivel?

You have to have zero happiness in your life to listen to a recovering drug addict spew his nonesense.

Beck is laughing all the way to the bank, with his cult buying his lame books and other junk.

I also notice his blackboards seem to be multiplying. Many more and he'll be trapped in a maze of them.

Having just written about HuffPost's bullying editorial agenda, descending to childish fingerpointing when it cannot describe just exactly what it is against, I read the comments following it story about Glenn Becks, cloak, cape or robe - the writer being so stupidly confused by these easy words.

I saw that HuffPost's readership is overwhelming juvenile, callow, swinish, and unable to find new ways in which to describe that it has been programmed to hate. Nonetheless, this lack of originality results in a welter of lightweight venting in sophomoric cliches intended to wound, if not kill, their opponent.

It is astounding to watch the hate well up with such vibrancy in this forum. It is obvious to me that these posters are dangerous, without morality, and would happily take the life of Glenn Beck or any other target held up by HuffPost as "the enemy".

You people are shameful, as is HuffPost. It and you should be beneath the contempt of anyone who cherishes morality and the rights delineated in our founding documents.

I suggest the babies move to Egypt to act as thugs employed by Mubarek to silence dissent. Or Sweden, to pay that country's soaring taxes. Just get them out of America since they have proven they understand nothing about the Republic. tt wd only be poetic justice if they vote the US into being a third-rate banana dictatorship, prostrate to Red China and every other of our creditors, begging for economic mercy.

I am so sorry for you ....you sound just like Glen Beck. Do you ever ask yourself what it would feel like to not be so afraid of everything and everyone....I sincerely feel that Glen Beck is sick and needs help..the sad thing is that Fox News is exploiting him ,,,I don't wish harm to come to Glen I wish help to come to him...He seem so paranoid and I feel that he is convincing people like yourself that is paranoia is justified,,,I agree that we should not hate Glen Beck but I do think that he is a danger to all those who take him seriously and to all those he says are ruining this country..I fear that people will take him so seriously that they will do Physical harm to one of our elected officials or the president himself...Help Glen by tuning in to reality..Please for the sake of this country and for the sake of Glen himself ...tune him out and let him get the help he needs..I think that he is a very troubled man....

ONe of the best posts on what Beck has been evoking for me , that i feel like you read my mind......wait, with Beck it's better to not say things like that, keep it concrete. The guy doesn't do well with metaphors. They explode into paranoia for him.

Kidding aside, it's sad to watch him publicly disintegrate. You know this must happen, for the sake of all. But, that doesn't make it any more satisfying.
And maybe that's what I hope will always be the difference between them and us....the quality of mercy of a people tells you everything you need to know.

Now I remember why I fanned you in the first place.
There's something highly moral in your stance, and I admire that....and I mean 'moral' in the Greek ideal sense of the word, a way of being, but probably goes without saying.

This guy is getting crazier and crazier. Shame on Fox for taking advantage of his mental illness for the sake of ratings. If they cared about their employees they would get him help.
