Christina Aguilera

Let's hope she remembers the lyrics this time.

Christina Aguilera, fresh off forgetting the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl -- the biggest stage in the world -- will take on another huge platform as she opens next Sunday night's Grammy Awards, the entertainment site Wayne's World reports.

Aguilera will sing alongside Jennifer Hudson in a tribute to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, the site says, offering her a chance at redemption.

Disgraceful! Francis Scott Key is probably rolling over in his grave. She should be ashamed of herself.

I loved it. Who wants a stuffy, stale rendition.

The Grammys, huh? Seems like a fair punishment for botching up the National Anthem...

You know this girl just can't win. Had she sung it straight she would have been called mundane and boring and had other performances compared to it to show that she hadn't done enough. Instead she flubs a bit and the pitchforks and torches come out at her.

There's a reason they lip sync songs and this is a perfect example of why it's needed, so people with inflated opinions of knowing how to do HER job don't have a need to endlessly pontificate how superior they are if said performer makes a mistake.

I can agree with your take that the pitchforks would have been out regardless if she had a good or bad performance but then again why is it bad for anyone to comment or to make a critical/analytical assessment of a flawed performance? One can comment either way w/o of course being idiotic on the negative side. There's a place for constructive criticism. Of course the operative word being Constructive. In general she's a gifted singer. Check her out singing A Song for You on Herbie Hancocks Possibilities. Brilliant.
But for me she's much more enjoyable with less of the vocal gymnastics.
As Miles would say...Less is More!

I like her. But she looked like death-warmed-over & her "interpretation" of the Anthem was not a show of talent, just a show of stuffing as many notes as you can into a song. Seems like this hyper-church-choir style will never die.
It should.

I know we are human and humans make mistakes, but some lyrics to songs are unforgettable, like the Star-spangled Banner

Unless you are performing in front of the largest crowd of your career, and perhaps a wee bit nervous.

Her act is tired. She needs to follow Madonna's lead: re-invent herself. Refresh her image, her style. Expand her singing repertoire. She's got to show that she's really WORKED it, really dug down deep in terms of creativity. Show the public she's "suffered for her art."

Make things a little unexpected. People like surprises. Good ones.

A rich, over the hill diva simply looking to make more money by peddling the same tired old act is simply not going to catch fire.

I'm not sure I would really call singing something at the Grammy awards "redemption" for screwing up the nation's anthem. A little bit of preparation for such an important song, especially considering the fact that she knew she'd have to be singing it at that time, on that day, would have been appropriate.

You guys are trying to make it seem like it is the end of her career because she forgot a line to a song.

Move on to something important. Isn't Octomom facing foreclosure this month?

You're wrong. The end of her career happened many years ago when her main audience reached puberty.

her career hasn't ended but clearly you're delusional.

I totally agree. Then she tried to appeal to adults by putting on a dog collar and stuffing herself with silicone. Real talent doesn't need this stuff.

It wsn't just the blown lines; the pop-styling that she gave what ought to be a dignified song was terrible too. And all in front of the biggest audience in the world, many of whom (like me) had never heard of her before that moment. It can only be hoped that a chance to redeem herself will come soon and that she will make the most of it; otherwise, like Scott "Wide Right" Norwood, she'll probably never hear the end of it.
12:47 AM on 02/08/2011
Agreed. It wasn't that she botched the lyrics (well, maybe that had a little to do with it), it was more about the fact that she tried making the song all about herself and her vocal "abilities." She couldn't just sing the song. She had to show off. I'm kind of glad it backfired on her. That's what she gets for being a narcissist.

she's made of petroleum, her voice has gone downhill and she's dressing like she's at a funeral..no thanks
