'Glee,' Katie Couric Diss Lohans (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/07/11 11:28 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

Well this was a good end to her weekend.

After Lindsay Lohan found out on Saturday that she was facing felony grand theft charges for allegedly swiping a necklace from a Los Angeles jewelry store, her family got called out on 'Glee' by one of the most famous women in America, CBS news anchor Katie Couric.

In the episode, Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch) has a cheerleading experiment go wrong, leading her to be interviewed by Katie Couric. While Sylvester initially thinks it's for being one of the most interesting people in the world, Couric lets her know it's for being one of the biggest losers -- and that she beat out Lindsay's controversial mom, Dina -- and her dog.

This diss comes on the heels of 'Glee' apologizing to Lohan for an insult made by Gwyneth Paltrow in an earlier episode this season. Guess they didn't quite mean it.

But hey, at least she didn't get made fun of by the E*Trade baby last night.

I feel sorry for Lindsay. She has a real talent and I hate to see people wasted. I'm sorry, she's a public figure and that means she and her behavior are open to criticism. Instead of her mother coming out and screaming "foul" she should start attending to her child. Unfortunately, I suspect she doesn't have the skills to be a real mother...or a real adult.

Dina Lohan needs to come to terms with reality. Reality is, she enables her daughter because her daughter is her ticket. Sad, makes me feel a little sorry for Lindsay...poor girl hardly has a chance considering her parents.

I watch Glee with my 13 y.o. daughter.
Several episodes, this season, were about bullying, though the show frequently
touches on bullying.
The comments about the Lohans, both, in the Katie Couric and Gwynth Paltrow shows,
IMO, are nothing but.[bullying]
For a show, at least my understanding, that's very premise is to help teens navigate the often difficult challenges they meet in day to day school life, to send a message that it's okay to pick and choose who they bully, is not okay.
It either is or it isn't.

I think you've mistaken a television show for actual parenting. "Glee" panders the same filth that "Jersey Shore" does, just less overtly. And who cares what the likes of Couric and Paltrow have to say about anything?

It is the parent's job to, after they watch a program like that with their children, to find out what the child took away from it - what they thought was good about the episode.

If they make it obvious that they really enjoyed how the mean kids did their dirt, it should be obvious what is needed - not suing the network but sitting your child down and making them understand what they were meant to take away from the episode - the ending - not the beginning.

It's your responsibility, not the TV program's writers, to be sure that your children understand the difference between right and wrong.

Thank you AntiOkie, for the parenting tips. lol
Agreed. The teaching of wrong from right is the parents responsibilty.

I view a t.v. show like "Glee" as a mere tool. At the end of the day, it should be, and is me, the parent, leading by example as well as open lines of communication.

I believe you read too much into my post. I was merely making an observation and never mentioned anything of lawsuits.

I think it says alot about Glee that they would apologize for kicking someone while they're down and then go out of their way to humiliate that person further... not to mention Ms. Couric.

It takes a small-minded person to spit on the whipping boy (or girl, in this case) chained to a post in the town square, so to speak.

But, for someone to take credit in public for an apology and give the impression that've realized that it is morally unacceptable to wallow in someone's misery AND THEN, while you toss out the life-saver to the drowning Lohan, you cut the life-line just to see the mortified look on her face as she realizes that she's been made a fool of, yet again, you've really got to be a soulless, sadistic and generally awful human being.

I don't know. Lohan is one twisted and pathetic spoiled lil drug addict. You won't hear any argument from me. However, in my opinion, what Glee/Couric have done here is really low and pathetic (even for them).

I mean, talk about catering to the lowest common denominator and going for the low-hanging fruit... That was a pretty personal attack for a show that was probably intending to do nothing more than poke fun at a safe and easy target.

I'm sure it was the cast members of glee who apologised to Lohan, not the production team. It's not up to the cast what goes in their scripts.

I've honestly forgotten for what Lindsay Lohan used to be famous before her name became a synonym for a train wreck ...

Ironically, one of the things that greatly contributed to her fame was that movie titled:

Mean Girls

Oh, she was an actress once. Well, Hollywood is full of drunk has-been actresses. A shame. Now she's not anything except a tabloid headline.

Love it. Sue gets Palin'ed.

Fund schools, not prisons. Classmates > inmates.

It was a terrific episode all the way around, but the fact they ended it on such an hysterical note made that one of the best ones ever. Sue beating out Dina as one of the biggest losers of the year was side-splitting.

Since when have we been concerned about making fun of criminals, especially repeat offenders who never learn their lesson?

"Lessons" are learned through education (reeducation - counselling), not through punishment.

She clearly isn't interested in learning. This is indicated by her repeated stints in rehab, and continued offenses. Meanwhile it's never her fault, it's always a misunderstanding, or the result of some conspiracy against her.

If you're going to behave like Lohan, you have to expect to take a bit of ribbing about it. Katie Couric was a hoot. A newcaster who just returned from the chaos in Egypt poking a little fun at an self indulgent 'starlet' was funny.
I thought it was riduculous that they apologized for Paltrow's line in the first place...it was true and hilarious? Si?

HP...you post the story, I type in the quote being discussed and you won't post that but you will post, "Glee is gay?" *sigh*

The insult was not made by Gwyenth Paltrow, afterall, she did not write the script for the show. The insult came from the show's writers and GP just delivered her lines.

They are talking about last night's episode, not the GP episode.

The article mentions the Paltrow episode.

Couric said, “You beat out the following losers: the economy, Mel Gibson, the housing market, Dina Lohan, Wall Street, Tiger Woods, the Dallas Cowboys, Brett Farve’s cellphone, 9% unemployment, and Sparky Lohan, who is Dina Lohan’s dog, and apparently, also a loser. How do you cope with that?â€

The answer? “I’ve been drinking a lot of bleach.â€

I'm no fan of either Lohan but what's with Glee's focus on them and the insults? Glee is coming off a churlish and mean. Does the director have it out for the Lohans? It's starting to look a bit like bullying, IMO.
02:37 PM on 02/07/2011
So a woman who exploited her daughter, covered for her behavior and did everything she could to keep the daughter from getting help for a drug addiction, and her daughter who has been sued more than once for stealing things like mink coats and is currently being charged with Grand Theft for walking out of a Jewlery store with a $3000 dollar necklace are somehow off limits?

Glee should not be singling people out for their misdeeds.
It's supposed to be about the music.

These people (Lohans) are a wreck and have sunk so low that they are too easy of a target, IMO. It's like kicking a dog when it's down. Just makes the show look petty.

I don't blame them for taking a hit on Dina . . . but not her poor dog!! What's the deal? Is he a milk bone addict?

Dina threatened to sue them over the Gwyneth/Lindsay thing. She didn't, maybe because it wasn't slander.

Some of the cast personally apologized to Lindsay so her mom backed off. To have Glee go at them again, well...I just think it's in very poor taste.

Slander is nearly impossible to prove in a court of law. IF the person saying the 'slander' believes that it's true then it's technically not 'slander'. That's why so many 'pundits' can get away with the junk they say.
