Leavenworth, Washington Tourism Board Creates What Might Be The Most Preposterous Ad Ever (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/09/11 04:32 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

This.Is.Pure.Insanity.

The Leavenworth, Washington tourism office has created what could certainly be considered the most ludicrous, out-of-context ad ever.

Sure, tourism offices go to extremes to get people's attention--remember the anti-British rant New Orleans went on this spring? Or the purposely ill-timed Spirit Airlines ads about oil on the beaches of the Gulf Coast? And let's not forget the lengths airlines go to to make you want to fly really badly.

But there is something mildly inappropriate and wildly entertaining about the ad the Leavenworth office created, highlighting a nutcracker that appears to be the town's mascot and breaking into a rap with women in lederhosen.

Check it out for yourself below.

"The women are not wearing lederhosen; they're wearing dirndls."

These are no Dirndls, they look like a female version of Lederhosen.
Dirndl look like that: http://www.google.com/images?hl=de&q=dirndl&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=pORTTefhJY7CswaO593cBg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=5&ved=0CFcQsAQwBA&biw=1024&bih=417 OR http://tiny.cc/zuniy

Great commercial, Prost!

I thought that lederhausen kulture lead to mass murder (and hot chicks), apparently I was wrong. It's just bad music (and hot chicks).

I love my Lederhosen!

Leavenworth is a fantastic place to spend a night every few months. There is a ton of win tasting, beer, and brats in the town. In the winter it is just an incredible sight. The entire town lights up and the snow on the surrounding hills is unreal.

Love the place.

During summer, if you like to fish, go to fish lake and get yourself a campsite. Lot's of trout in a stocked lake (but the fish are smart and they won't just give themselves to you like a drunken prom date). You'll have to work for them. Cyclists, hikers, nature lovers of all kinds frequent the area during summer. Skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Like the spot says, if you like goooooood beer, brats and beautiful mountain scenery, go to Leavenworth. It's really quite nice.

I live in Leavenworth and this was the talk of the town — as you can imagine — when it came out this fall. We have the best locals of any tourist town, because we have world-class kayaking, skiing, rock-climbing and mountain biking at our doorstep.

Shhhhhhhhh! The last thing we need are more 'locals'.

If you find yourself at the Leavenworth that is a prison, you're in the wrong Leavenworth. That's okay, easy mistake. Just get back out on the highway (unless you're doing 20 to life) and turn left. Go west in a northerly incline until you get to Washington State, then aim for the middle. You'll know you're close when you see a sign that says, "Welcome To Leavenworth." You can't miss it. This is a fun town. I prefer it in the summertime.

I used to live in Leavenworth, or as the locals say "Leavensworth". Like most tourist traps it has a lot of goofy, tacky charm. But you can't beat the location, right in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. And the recreational opportunities are spectacular, hiking, skiing (downhill and x-country) snowshoeing, river rafting, fishing, hunting, I could go on and on......

I heart woody goomsba, and cheesy leavenworth too. I wish much success to this tiny old logging town in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
