Ricky Gervais: Will Arnett Should Join 'The Office'

Steve Carrell is leaving "The Office," but series creator Ricky Gervais has an idea to bring some new star power to the show.

Writing on his blog, Gervais talked about a recent meeting he had and the pitch he made.

"Had a little meeting with NBC about various things and recommended Will Arnett for a regular in 'The Office.' Thoughts? I think he's amazing," Gervais wrote.

He didn't mention whether Arnett should replace Carrell as "Office" boss, though one can imagine his famously idiotic characters -- made famous in "Arrested Development" and "Running Wilde" -- as a bumbling man in charge.

He also spoke about the travel show he's producing, "An Idiot Abroad," which stars his friend Karl Pilkington as, well, an idiot traveling abroad. Not shy to create some controversy, Gervais earlier blogged about his solution for Egypt.

"I am going to take over Egypt," he wrote. "I've always wanted a little dictatorship and I think this would be a good starting point. I wouldn't want to run it for long, Ideally I'd like something in Europe eventually, but you've got to start somewhere right?"

Somehow, that doesn't seem like the solution that Egyptians are going for. Especially after his Golden Globe performance.

If it's not Will Arnett, they've made a huge mistake.

I thought Will Ferrell would be great, but Will Arnett would be stunningly perfect for this role.

I *heart* the comedic genius that is Will Arnett. If he joins "The Office" then I will become a regular (not that I don't love me some Steve Carrell)

Will Arnett made the words "dong bags" absolutely hysterical. He's got the comedy Midas touch.

Will Arnett makes me laugh in every show he does. Even being completely serious, there is always a comedic quality to the guy.

I thought "The Office" was a comedy -- shouldn't they get someone funny?

I'm not sure how I never thought of will arnett, but the role is definitely within his range.

What happened though? I thought Gervais was taking over? But he only made like a 2 minute appearance so far...
