NORAD Bomb Scare Turns Out To Be Garbage Truck

Garbage Truck Sparks NORAD Security Alert

A garbage truck headed to pick up trash at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station set off an electronic explosive detector Thursday afternoon, sparking a bomb scare at the underground installation that's designed to survive a nuclear blast.

A spokesman for the 21st Space Wing, which oversees the mountain base, said bomb-sniffing dogs and a military bomb checked the truck and found nothing to fear. But the main road to the base was shut down for two hours during the scare.
