Santa Monica Farmers Market: Where Does Your Produce Comes From?

The Santa Monica Farmers Market, which turns 30 this year, offers shoppers fresh, local produce on a weekly basis. The act of buying local, organic produce helps out nearby farmers in the community while also providing consumers with an alternative to grocery store-bought items. Farmers market supervisor Laura Avery takes us behind the scenes and back to the farm for a glimpse of what it takes to keep us fed and healthy. She explains, "staff and volunteers make regular visits to farms to learn more about how farming is done in California, and to verify that the farmers at the Santa Monica markets are growing everything they sell."
