Kate Middleton & Ellen DeGeneres Cousins (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/12/11 10:13 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

We thought by now we knew everything there is to know about Kate Middleton (except for, ahem, what she'll be wearing on her big day) but here's some late-breaking news: she and Ellen DeGeneres are apparently cousins.

The New England Historic Genealogical Society contacted the talk show host, explaining, "As we were doing the research, we discovered that you are related to Kate via a man named SIr Thomas Fairfax and his wife Agnes Gascoigne. You are distant cousins -- 15th -- but cousins still the same."

Ellen seemed super-excited to find out about her new family, even offering to pick up a little something at Pier 1 or Target before the wedding.

Dark Helmet: "I am your father's, brother's, nephew's, cousin's former roommate."

Lonestar: "What's that make us?"

Dark Helmet: "Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become!"

For anyone fortunate enough to have had ancestors who came to America during colonial times and who has one or two families which have been well researched, there are amazing discoveries to be had and a world of history, culture and economics at hand.

I am fortunate to have one of those lines. My forbears left England in 1629 and settled in Massachusetts, helped found Charlestown and became farmers and civic contributors. I have been able to go back to William the Conqueror and further back with one line and I have learned that we are all so closely related to real people in history that there is great reason to act like family rather than strangers.

The best quote I ever heard was by a cruise director on a Royal Caribbean cruise. She said;
"There are no strangers- - - only friends we have not met yet."
Please do try a little genealogy and you will find there are many relatives out there, living on your own block in your own neighborhood, whom you never thought carried genetic and other traits of your own ancestors.  It is a worthy and very economic hobby. It can be intoxicating!

As for me, I am related to Cleopatra, the last Queen of Egypt, and through her to the goddess Isis. There is also a chicken-eating goat somewhere in my ancestry, though, understandably, my family keeps this part secret.

The US always has to find some geneological link to a Royal Princess in England. Yet, some over here purport to disdain Royalty. This time, it is Kate and Ellen. If you are a descendant of one of the Colonists, you probably do have some relationship there.

It is only nonsense because you may be looking at the absurdity of hero worship as created by the media. There is another way to look at it.
Kate Middleton and Elen Degeneres are two women who were born, without a choice in the matter. They have a common ancestor, who lived as the point of the long line of his own ancestors.

The world is depending on us to use what we have in common to build a world where we can all live in peace, joy and abundance without strife, excessive competition and war.

Anything at all we can find in common with others is worth a hundred times whatever differences we find, unless those differences can be used to create a positive goal that will deliver something of benefit.

Yes, Ellen can be a clown and Kate is just the benefactor of having attractive geometry and proximity to a person of wealth and power. That does not take away from their humanity and how we all relate to one another. I hope this helps you look at it in a different way.

The joy comes from identifying whom they were, how they lived, what sacrifices they made for humanity and how we can carry on their legacies. Human legacy is the only worldly immortality we can create and it is very difficult to manifest things which last more than a couple of generations.
Think about the opportunities!

I guess this means she'll be receiving a wedding invitation! Who would want to forget to invite their 15th cousin to their wedding!

Yeah, that Ellen - she's a real laugh riot. Can stop laughing.

Since we all are descended from Adam and Eve, we are all cousins to some extent. At least that's the way it is, according to the creationists.

Question: How did Adam and Eve have two sons (one of whom killed the other) and then procreate from there? Just asking.

Genesis 5:3 "When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died. "
