Albert Pujols Rejects Offer From Cardinals: Report

OFFER REJECTED

UPDATE: Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals have set a deadline for contract extension negotiations for noon ET on Wednesday.

All-Star slugger Albert Pujols reportedly rejected a contract proposal from the St. Louis Cardinals and does not intend to address the negotiations when he reports to the team's spring-training camp on Wednesday.

USA Today reported that "unless a dramatic change is made," the 31-year-old will announce on Tuesday that he will end contract negotiations for the rest of the season.

A source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that Pujols received an offer two weeks ago and did not accept. No progress in the contract talks has been made since then.

According to the report, the Cardinals first baseman wants a 10-year deal.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was quoted as saying that this could potentially be a "spectacular distraction."
