Annie Reed Eminem Interview

First Posted: 02/14/11 01:18 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

When Michigan middle school student Annie Reed was assigned the task of writing an article for her school newspaper, she set an ambitious goal: she wanted to interview Grammy-award winning rapper Eminem.

Eminem is known for shying away from television and radio interviews, but after Reed's persistent requests, he granted her a 15-minute phone interview.

WXYZ News reports the pair spoke about what makes Detroit unique and the music the rapper listened to as a child.

HOW MUCH OF THE INTERVIEW DID THE LITTLE DARLING HAVE TO "BLEEP" OUT? ANYONE WATCHING THE GRAMMYS KNOWS WHAT I MEAN.

No words should ever be banned. Free speech is essential to true freedom. No one has the right to NOT be offended.

What about words in all-caps? Can't we ban those?

Eminem speaks to the Emotion's of people, not to the criticizers of language. This is why he is the most popular Musician since Michael Jackson. Eminem's lyrics are a reflection of his thoughts and Emotions that are based upon his feelings. This makes him more real, more human, and his critics despise it because they don't understand very human feelings.

Well said. What Em puts out there can be some pretty ugly emotions at times but they're human emotions that we all feel at different points in our lives. He just happens to say them and if you're not used to that level of honesty then it can be a jarring experience.

THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF THE "DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA." TO USE THE WORD "MUSICIAN" IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS "EMINEM" IS BLASPHEMY! DOES HE HAVE TO USE ALL THOSE 4-LETTER WORDS IN HIS "HUMANITY?"

As per Cohn v. California:

"Additionally, we cannot overlook the fact, because it [403 U.S. 15, 26]   is well illustrated by the episode involved here, that much linguistic expression serves a dual communicative function: it conveys not only ideas capable of relatively precise, detached explication, but otherwise inexpressible emotions as well. In fact, words are often chosen as much for their emotive as their cognitive force. We cannot sanction the view that the Constitution, while solicitous of the cognitive content of individual speech, has little or no regard for that emotive function which, practically speaking, may often be the more important element of the overall message sought to be communicated. Indeed, as Mr. Justice Frankfurter has said, "[o]ne of the prerogatives of American citizenship is the right to criticize public men and measures - and that means not only informed and responsible criticism but the freedom to speak foolishly and without moderation." Baumgartner v. United States, 322 U.S. 665, 673 -674 (1944)."

Put another way - profanity is a way to express emotion that cannot otherwise be expressed. To tell an artist he is dull because he uses profanity is to ignore reality.  Listening to a censored version of George Carlin would be akin to "admiring" a rendition of Starry Night after someone had drained the color from the canvas.

You should watch Pleasantville, I think the message would do you good.

He is a product of his environment. The culture he grew up in speaks this way. They are just words,,, letters strung together. Get past your aversion to them and listen to or better yet read some of his lyrics. He is an excellent writer!

Funny, he was public enemy #1 in school across America when he first made it big. I guess people have finally learned to look past the music video.
