With only 33 aircraft sold, this thing smells like the 767-400 and 747-300 all over again...

Well it's time to play catchup with Airbus, I guess lol... The old and decrepit US fleet is way too inferior to the Europeans and even Asians... Not to mention the Train System in the US is like driving one of those old Russian cars in Cuba... No fast trains, no good city trains, just awful.. It's like riding in India on those dirty old antiques left over from colonial times...

I hope the American carriers are going to start upgrading the dinosaurs they fly. About time to completely upgrade their fleets.

I guess it's a good thing that the actual planes will be painted the colors of whatever airline buys them...because the paint color is what's most important.

It takes 600 lbs of paint to cover a 747.

It's a nice break from the gray and blue scheme all over the recent introductions of new planes, like the A380 and 787. The red seems to evoke a warmer connection with the plane, along with a harkening to an earlier era when color wasn't a dirty word. Look at all the "popular" (i.e. inoffensive) colors on cars today: shades of gray, white, silver, and black, with some tans thrown in. Since it's an evolutionary step for the 747, it's good to use a bolder color to catch public interest. What a beautiful bird! I like it in red.

I cannot believe how such an ugly plane like A380 made it past the marketing department at Airbus. Various shapes of the prototype 747 in the 1960s were similarly ugly - I'm glad Boeing went with what the public ultimately got in the 747.

"Passengers can look forward to a better feeling of space..."

Will there be more space, or merely a better feeling of it? I would prefer the former.

"Passengers can look forward to a better feeling of space...", or the airlines can choose instead to cram in an extra four rows of seats...

Those extra rows mean nothing less than the survival of the industry. If the airlines failed and I had to drive from Seattle to New York because my extra legroom meant tickets were too expensive, I'd feel pretty bad.

Would have been nice if they had included some shots of the passenger cabin and cockpit.

Man, I'm getting old. I can remember when they had a piano bar in the upper level of some 747's. I was in my early teens and thought it was kind of weird and the people up there total jerks. I got thrown out twice, and my Dad asked why since we were traveling first class. The steward said it was an 'adult venue', which made me even more curious. I kept expecting Angie Dickinson and Burt Bacharach to show up and start singing about Martini & Rossi ("say yeeeeesssssss") or strippers.

Air travel today, even in first class, is pretty pedestrian.

Travel by train has more promise, since space is less costly.

I used to fly those between LA and New York or Washington a lot and you did see various stars show up and start singing.  I actually had a drink with John Wayne on one of those flights.

the a380 will never break even let alone profit its all about the prestige of having the biggest thing "

Yeah, and Boeing is welfare for America, what's your point?

240 A380 have been ordered, the A380 is a huge success. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Airbus_A380#Orders_and_deliveries

I had the misfortune of landing in Sydney at the same time as two A380s.  Immigration was a zoo and took forever.  I hate those cattle planes.

It is true that Boeing is subsidized by all the fat military contracts it is awarded by the Defense department. On the other hand, without those subsidies, both America and Europe would have to face the even more heavily subsidized, nascent Chinese aircraft industry a few years down the line.

Not just China, but from Canada and Brazil as well.

Bombardier and Embraer are starting to push their way up into the narrow-body market.

Bombardier is going to produce a narrow-body airliner that will beat the 737 and A320 in efficiency even if Boeing and Airbus re-engine them.

I am worried there is no mesh/or apparatus to prevent birds/geese flying into the engine when taking off or landing..- why not - poor geese.
