I dined at a restaurant on Valentine's Day that had a prix fixe menu in which every course had chocolate in it. Savory dishes with chocolate sounds so unappealing to me. I ordered a la carte.

Those mashed potatoes look to die for.

Steakhouse here too! Just had ribeye on a bed of caramelized onions & shallots, fresh asparagus, couscous made with carrot juice & chives, and for dessert, creme brulee! My significant other is in ecstasy!

I too, am doing the "steakhouse" at home for dinner tonight. Add a romantic movie like "Out of Africa" and we're good.

So glad to see martinis going back to being martinis instead of sweet drinks.

Yes indeed, although this one has way too much vermouth. The ingredient are exactly the same as a dirty martini except for the eyeball.

I remember back in the 60's and 70's Valentines Day was not such a big deal. A card or some candy maybe. Now it's dinner and hundred dollar roses, ghetto jewlery from Kay.

I way dislike that open heart collection from Kays, the commercials make me want to scream.

I love your description of the tacky, made up jewelry from Kay!

If you're staying in, you should check out this list. I like the one above, but this is the best romantic food suggestions list I've seen in a while: http://foodiegossip.blogspot.com/2011/02/have-hot-valentines-day-with-foodie.html

Sounds delish except for the Chocolate Mousse and the Chocolate Stout Pan Sauce. not a big fan of chocolate on my steak or in piles of it in a bowl. :)

It's so rich though. The eating might be nice and romantic but the rest of the evening would be bloated, lethargic and gassy...

but what do I know? I'm a kooky herbivore.

I've heard so many people at the office today talking about how they will not be dining out and chose to cook a nice Valentine's meal at home.

My wife and I did the same thing this year. We celebrated yesterday.

Almost every year we ate out on Valentine's Day, it was dissapointing. Crowded restaurant. Reservations running late. Servers, bar staff and cooks in a frenzy. Took forever to get our food, and when we did, it was very mediocre and looked "rushed". I've worked in those restaurants on Valentine's, so I'm not being critical of the staff. It's just too much mayhem!

We have leftover corned beef and lots of salami on hand. Sandwiches tonight. Oh, and been married 46 years this June.
