CLINTON, Iowa — Now he's opened his first chicken restaurant in Iowa, rapper Flavor Flav would like to earn his high school diploma in the state and record his efforts for a new reality TV show.

Flav, whose real name is William Drayton Jr., grew up in Freeport, N.Y. He says he dropped out of school in 10th grade.

He opened Flav's Fried Chicken in Clinton, Iowa last month – his only connection to the Mississippi River town.

Last week the 51-year-old pitched his idea for "Flavor Flav Goes Back to High School" to the local school superintendent and a school board member. He says he'll approach the full board in a couple of weeks.

Flav was in '80s hip-hop group Public Enemy and has since found new fame on reality shows.

The fact that this man is a celebrity in any context makes me ashamed to be a human, an American, and a person-of-color.

I was born in Clinton and now live in a little town about half an hour away from there. I think there's probably an age limit to public schools, and I'm not sure the guy even lives inside the district, so the whole thing might be moot. But even so, as long as schools set dress codes to ban "distracting" outfits they shouldn't let this walking joke and his camera crew in the school. If I had a kid who was trying to concentrate with this circus going on I'd throw a fit to the board about it.

Uniforms are mandatory. Time instruments will be provided by the school to ensure uniformity.

Hey, that's a great lesson for your kids. Education, no matter how much you've attained in riches, is always important!

Good for him. He's a positive and pretty wise dude.

If he were to donate all profits from the show to education then I would be in support of him being allowed to film his high school process. If not he needs to be filmed studying to get his GED and moving on from there. Making a mockery of the already broken U.S. education system is not the way to go. Mr. Flav needs to utilize his fame to do something truly inspirational and get back to the days when he actually had a message and was not apart of the fame crazed reality television circuit.

Understand the point, but it's deceptive. We have college graduates that won't find the success Flav has. School does not guarantee your success. Hard work and perseverance have allowed many to overcome educational shortcomings, however. Combine the two and, yes, you'll have a greater chance for success, but there are no guarantees.

I'm with you. I wasn't pushing the argument that there was a one-to-one correlation with success and school, I was going for a facile correlation between the two, in this case, because Flav-Va-Flav is so damn amusing. Yeah Booyyyy!!! *hahaha* Forgive me, I couldn't help it

To paraphrase Chris Rock, Flav would be going back to get his G.E.D. (Good Enough Diploma). Four years of high school in six weeks.
