Donald Trump To Buy Mets?

With spring training just around the corner, Donald Trump has caught baseball fever.

Trump is reportedly considering buying the Mets, which could help the team's current owners, who are struggling with financial woes stemming from Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme.

Fred Wilpon, the Mets principal owner, is a friend of the Donald.

"Anything I can do to help Fred, I'd love to do," Trump said.

Trump told the New York Post that he called Wilpon "a couple of weeks ago" to talk about purchasing the Mets.

"We'll see what happens," Trump said. "It's going to take a long time for [the Mets] to work out the situation."

The real estate tycoon said he wouldn't need to own a majority stake in the team, but admitted, "my history is I control things."

A Mets spokesperson had no comment on the issue.

Trump has tried to play savior a couple of times recently. He's flirting with the idea of saving our nation from its economic disparity by running for president.

He's also made a play to resurrect the Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
