Valentine's Day 2011 will be remembered as particularly epic for one determined Thai couple, who sealed a new world record for the longest continuous kiss after locking lips for a whopping 46 hours, 24 minutes.

As the BBC is reporting, Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat were one of 14 couples taking part in a "kissathon" contest in Pattaya. The pair started snogging at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, and were announced the winners just before dawn on Feb. 15.

"It's not only our toughness, it's also because of our love," Laksana gushed. She and her husband took home prizes, including a diamond ring, worth an estimated $5,000. Their results are to be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records for approval, and if verified, they could reportedly beat the previous record, set in Germany in 2009, by 14 hours.

"Kissathon" contestants had to be either married or a serious couple. They were allowed to eat, drink and use the rest rooms, provided they did not break their embrace during that time. No sitting or sleeping was permitted.
