Lara Logan Released From Hospital, Talks To Obama

UPDATE # 2: The New York Times and The Wrap both reported that President Obama called Lara Logan on Wednesday afternoon. The White House would not provide details of the conversation.

UPDATE: ABC News reported Wednesday that Lara Logan was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. ABC cited "a friend" as their source, and said that Logan is recuperating at her Washington, D.C.-area home with her husband and children.

ORIGINAL POST:
Lara Logan is being released from the hospital today in "remarkably good spirits," despite the trauma of the sexual assault and beating she suffered at the hands of a group of men in Egypt last Friday, Howard Kurtz reports.

Kurtz says that Logan had left Egypt, but had returned to interview Wael Ghonim, the Google executive who became a leading face of the Egyptian revolution. She then went to Tahrir Square in Cairo after the news of President Hosni Mubarak's resignation broke, and was separated from her crew. It was then that she was surrounded and assaulted. Logan was saved, according to CBS, by a group of women and Egyptian soldiers.

In its statement, CBS had only said that Logan was "recovering" in an American hospital. "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric echoed that statement during her Tuesday broadcast, saying Logan was "recovering well."

Logan endured a harrowing few weeks in Egypt. The week before her assault, she was detained by Egyptian police. As she told Esquire, she and her crew were "arrested, detained, and interrogated. Blindfolded, handcuffed, taken at gunpoint, our driver beaten."

I have been reading about this terrible violation on Laura Logan...
To Laura,
I wish you healing from this horrific assault. I support you in what you do and I can't believe some of the most "thoughtless" comments from people. I share your passion for the "truth" and in my opinion you are an "inspiration" to women, all over the world. You had the "guts" and "passion" to do what so many women do not. You walked through "fear" that stiffiles so many women...You are my "hero" and I will be praying for you for a "full" recovery!! God bless you!!

it is very sad that rape is a reality. however it is a reality. just because it is wrong doesn't mean it won't happen.

she knew the risks going in so i don't feel sorry for her. however i do applaud her bravery. it is an essential public service that she took the risk to provide. i bet she doesn't need much sympathy. she is probably quite tough and will be fine.

and just lock away the rapists. get all the sex u like in jail. or all the sex u don't like.

I met Lara Logan once in the intensive care ward at the military hospital in Baghdad late June of 2007. My son had just been hit by an IED (EFP) while on patrol and had his leg amputated. Lara was there with her interpreter who was torn up by a suicide bomber at her hotel. She was the sweetest and most compassionate lady a grieving father could have met. I can't adequately tell you of the misery I was in or just how nice it was to meet her and see the compassion she gave to my terribly wounded son. I pray for her full recovery and wish her the very best.

Your continued service speaks volumes toward your character and is very deserving of our admiration and gratitude, as is your son. Not only do I pray for Lara Logan's full recovery, but also for your son's, your family's and yours. Parents' wounds are extremely difficult to heal, but it is my hope that yours and his mother's are beginning to. Many prayers for your safety and all those still in harm's way.

I hope you son recovered fully otherwise and is home with you and having a fine life. My deep regrets for the loss of his leg and my most profound gratitude for his service to his country and us, the American people.

It is such a tragedy that our brave heroes must suffer and sacrifice so much. It breaks my heart for them and for you, their families.

God bless you all.

I hope she recovers soon. You can tell there is WAY too much testosterone in the crowds that are revolting in many of these cities. All these angry young men -- it's a time bomb waiting to go off and she was right in the middle of it.

Yes, I take my hat off and pay deep respect to the President for his concern of a compatriot may He/she be any body of any race color and religion.

The kind gesture of the president has set the example for others to follow to be called a president of the nation. I pay my heart felt gratitude to the president for this kind gesture. I am sure that now the actions will start.

Thanks to Huffingtonpost.

@factisfact...agreed. When in our life time has the President of United States taken the time to call and comfort some one like that, to show his support? I to was touched by his kind gesture, not because of any politics or show as some might try to ruin the goodness of it.

Thanks Nina My Friend, only people with genuine quality of humanity
imbued in them acts as the president has. He cannot cure the ill done
both mentally and physically but he stood with her in her difficult
days in solidarity is all that a citizen expects from a human being.

Nina, I am extremely happy to see your heart felt kind feelings for
Lara and appreciation of a good step taken by the President.

I must mentioned that I am obliged humbled down to earth in
appreciation of your sweet nice, and kind gestures. Take care.

I have always been for women's rights, but common sense did not prevail here. Woman journalists should not be in naked men's locker rooms or in areas where they know the men do not respect females. American's were told to leave the country weeks earlier for their own safety.

Off topic, but surprised that the Media site missed Chris Matthews' call on the Rumsfeld book.

I knew it wouldn't make headlines. A little late, but still, Matthews' calling on an investigation into the lies of the Iraq invasion as now stated in Rummy's book warrants at least an honorable mention.

Sad, what has become of us.

Obama calls her?  And does what?  Oh, right, he'll push to continue aid to Egypt because they have suffered so much that they just had to assault Lara Logan.  I can't stand GOPers, but if this President says anything about continuing aid, I hope he's impeached.

Probably he called her to offer encouragement to her after her ordeal. Something I imagine you would never do judging by your post.

Are you actually taking a position on something, or is this just random word salad? Because from where I'm sitting, it kinda sounds like I wandered onto ICanHasCheezbrgr, or something.

Prayers for Mrs. Logan. I'm guessing CBS failed to report it right away had to do with making Obama look bad since the White House was making it seem like the Revolution was peaceful and pro-US and pro-Israel. Not! Many journalists and women and others were brutalized and even killed. I also feel sorry for the blonde journalist Anne Pressly who was brutally killed, raped, and beaten by a robber thug in Arkansas. Another journalist was brutally raped in Haiti but ended up blaming white partriarchal men of the US instead of the attacker. We live in the strangest of times.

Is it too much to ask that your inability to comprehend someone's post not compel you to throw out snarky insults?

The poster brings up an interesting question as to 'why' it took so long for this to come out? Whether or not his/her suspicion is correct is besides the point. He is also simply noting that many journalists have been attacked (and even killed) recently as an aside but related point. Honestly, this isn't hard... A little more time trying to understand someone's meaning and less on the snarky trigger might help.
