Sarah Palin Speaks Out On 2012, Birthers & 'Death Panels' Charge

Sarah Palin Interview

AP/The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/17/11 02:36 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Sarah Palin says she is still thinking about running for president in 2012, but has not made up her mind.

In an hour-long interview in front of a New York business group, Palin said the hiring of a chief of staff last week for her political action committee was an attempt to better organize her life.

The former Alaska governor suggested there's "no one" more qualified to handle the demands of the presidency than "a woman, a mom," according to Politico.

She demurred when asked about former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's comments that he might be inclined to run if she does. She called him awesome but didn't elaborate.

The former vice presidential candidate and potential presidential hopeful appeared before 1,000 business and civic leaders Thursday on New York's Long Island.

Palin forecast an unpredictable presidential election season that will be heavy on social media.

During the appearance in front of the mainstream press, she also took the opportunity to criticize the budget proposal introduced by President Barack Obama last week.

She charged that the plan wouldn't "even make a dent" in the deficit and stressed, "It's not nearly enough."

Jeff Zeleny at the New York Times notes other topics addressed by Palin include "death panels" -- a widely-debunked idea the conservative favorite once warned could result from health care reform -- as well as the conspiracy theory that the president was born outside the United States.

Palin said the landmark health care bill Obama signed into law last year gave her heartburn. She also defended her much-criticized claim that the law would lead to federal "death panels" determining who would receive care.

She said: "My question was, who are these faceless bureaucrats on a panel who will decide? Will it be my baby with Down syndrome, who maybe somebody may judge him as not having that level of productivity somebody else may have. So maybe if rationed care is part of this, maybe he wouldn't receive the care."

Palin also noted the recent increases in the price of food and mocked Michelle Obama to make her point. The first lady is encouraging mothers to breast feed their infants as part of her campaign to reduce childhood obesity - an effort that has drawn scorn from some conservatives.

"No wonder Michelle Obama is telling everybody you better breast feed your babies," Palin said. "I'm looking and say, 'Yeah, you better because the price of milk is so high right now.'"

As for the birther matter, Zeleny wrote in a tweet, "@SarahPalinUSA says questions about Obama citizenship unneeded. 'It's distracting. It gets annoying. Let's stick with what really matters.'"

Sarah Palin running for president??? First I need proof that she was born here. I'm not sure. Has she shown anyone her birth certificate? Until she runs for president, I suppose I'll have to take her at her word. :-) But how do I know she's not a Muslim. The whole thing could be a coverup. Mayor of Wasila? Wow. She ruled over 10,000 people in the political hot bed of Wasila. Semi-Governor of Alaska? Wow. Alaska has over 600,000 people. Rahm Emanual won mayor of Chicago, which has more people (3.5 million) than Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana put together. Wow!!! Basically she was governor over mountains, bears, moose, and a few people. Oh I forgot, she is going to India next month. I wonder if she has read a newspaper yet.

I'm looking at the picture.
The word 'ALASKA' appears on her blouse.
Is that there so if she gets lost we'll know where to send her?

Will not run for president in the general election as a Republican.

Of course she will run, but she does not want to be president because that would require working for a living--and working 24/7!

No she just wants to collect campaign donations and spend those funds traveling the country to promote herself so she can "write" another book, land another "reality' show, and up her speaking engagement bookings and fees.

She never misses an opportunity to take advantage of an opportunity!

Isn't that the behavior checklist for evaluating a sociopath? More to the point, what then does it say about her followers?

Only in a country that elected George W. Bush twice, could someone this moronic actually be so popular with millions of people. When George won his second term, a major British newspaper printed a huge front page headline saying "how could 50 million people be so stupid"? Now the question is how could the millions of Sarah supporters be so stupid? I wish I had an answer, but I have seen this type of nonsense my entire life and will never understand it. The simple answer is that all these Americans are lemmings or just people who bury their head in the sand. But it has to be deeper than that. They must be just lacking any form of common sense or just plain stupid.

palin is a monumental republican celebration of ignorance, hate and fear. She is everything a tea bagger could value - big mouth, no brains and breasts.

Because there wouldn't be any room left for Michele Bachmann. That way, If President Obama gives a speech, you would have no idea what Michele Bachmann thinks of it. It would have a chilling effect on the free flow of information that the electorate depends on to make informed decisions- like voting against their own health care and against progressive taxation, for instance.

It is ASTOUNDING (yes, I must capitalize) that somebody like this woman would be taken seriously and occupy so much of the nation's time when there are so many serious problems all around us. Only in America.

It is time we realized that Palin is a media/GOP creation -- their political celebrity -- presented to us for the purpose of distracting us from issues that really matter. It makes no difference what she has to say, since none of it makes sense. The goal of promoting her and highlighting her "thoughts" is to stir up trouble, get people worked up about nothing, and increase/decrease whatever ratings, while the business as usual is taking place behind us backs.

I have a question for Sarah Palin and the Christian Republican Tea Party Birther movement who supposedly have a two-way conversation with God from time to time. Please ask God if Heaven has a "white only section?" You all might be enlightened to the response!

Sarah Palin says she is still thinking about running for president in 2012, but has not made up her mind."

She got 3% of the straw poll vote at cpac. So what could possibly be motivating this little gold digger who quit her obligations to her state to keep saying she "might " run?
Ahh maybey it's to keep her name out there and get more money for speaking. Or maybey she figures O'Donnell makes a living at being a proffessional candidate so why now me.

When did America start loving a quitter anyway?

Her ego drives everything she does. It's all about attention, just as it has been for her entire life. Beauty queens are experts at attention-getting behavior. She was nasty on her high school basketball team and relished (still does) the Barracuda moniker. She ran for public office an quit-- several times. She tweets and spouts off on Facebook. She loves to be in the spotlight whenever she can.
She's got a serious case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
