WATCH: Rangel May Not Run For Re-Election After All

Rangel in 2012? Not so fast.

Rep. Charlie Rangel hedged his bets on whether he would seek re-election in 2012.

Earlier this week, the 80-year-old representative filed a 2012 statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission one year before its deadline.

"The filing means what it says, that he is running for re-election," Rangel spokesman Bob Liff said of the filing.

Now, Rangel tells MyFoxNY that "nothing is locked in stone. I have to talk to my voters and my community leaders and all of those things."

He also added, "This is an intention I have at this time."

Rangel was censured for misconduct in December, after
the members of the House found that Rangel failed to pay all his taxes and filed misleading financial statements, among other offenses.

However, Rangel did point out that he received 80% of the vote the last time he ran.

The Observer notes that many in the Congressman's Harlem district believed "there was even a possibility that Rangel would not finish this term."

WATCH the entire interview, in which Rangel also discusses the prospect of deep federal budget cuts, and President Obama's compassion.
