How Fritz Hansen's Famed Series 7 Chair Is Made (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/20/11 01:32 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

First designed in 1955 by Arne-Jacobsen, the Series 7 chair has become iconic. And while the final product is sleek and simple, the creation process proves to be otherwise; this black and white film shows the complexity that goes into making the Series 7. With more than a 12 step process, this chair takes both humans and machines to get built. Check out the video we found via Core77.

I love this chair and that video was so seductive. The quality of the video is so good, and I watched it right until the end. I know some people don't like that, but you really get the detail and quality from seeing that.
Now I just need to save up and buy one: http://us.mydeco.com/p/series-7-chair-colored-ash-183-seat-height/US000708LYF2I5UVPSVIAYJJ6ZGHBUKZOD6IHET6/

Design is the key the everything. Key points for education: treat your things with respect, because alot of work goes into their making. Good design gives a room or city an atmosphere - luxury, comfort, charm, respect.

Otherwise, you end up living in a ditchwater, strip mall depressing oasis. There are many global cities that understand design and their people are happier and more sophisticated, and they walk so they aren't obese.

So true. And so little info about the construction process.

This film should come with a warning.

you guys are nuts...that was a very well produced visual (language independent) piece that shows, more than anything, that a common item that you take for granted is actually the product of significant human, and not robotic, labor.

I can't believe that that string farty guitar just kept going. Someone has to talk to this film's producer and point that out.

I thin k you ought to change the title from Fritz Hansen to Arne Jacobsen, it is his chair as he was the designer. The way it is now, the uniformed might think that Fritz Hansen designed that chair.

That's how "$hit" goes.

I built a 40-foot metal bar and tables for a nightclub in Detroit and it contributed in winning of

many awards, but I didn't get a "lick" of recognition for it, because the "Interior-Decorator" picked

the colors to match the bar, and so on,.....

But it happens a lot when $$$$$ interest takes credit for the intelectual and artistic creation of another,....
