For a whole generation of young Chicagoans, this year's city election marks the first truly contested race for mayor in a lifetime. So it's open to speculation: will the youth turn out in force to decide their city's future, or are they permanently turned cynical to city politics?
In an attempt to push for the former and not the latter, Rock the Vote decided to corral some candidates and throw a party to get young people thinking about politics. After last Thursday's final mayoral debate, Billy Dec's Rockit Bar & Grill played host to a Mayoral Debate After Party. All six candidates were invited, though only Gery Chico and Miguel del Valle attended.
The two men addressed the assembled crowds, American Idol winner Lee DeWyze played and sang and the merriment began. Whether the voting follows, we'll have to wait and see.
