The New York Times:

In the view of officials from both major political parties, Republicans may be risking the same kind of electoral backlash Democrats suffered after they were perceived as overreaching.

Public surveys suggest that most voters do not share the Republicans' fervor for the deep cuts adopted by the House, or for drastically slashing the power of public-sector unions. And independent voters have historically been averse to displays of political partisanship that have been played out over the last week.

The Republicans want to cut the deficit.  I know one way in which the budget can be cut dramatically and the Republicans can face the music, so to speak, of their actions.  Virtually all the Republicans are from "beneficiary states".  The Democrats should propose that all states be limited to receiving back from the Federal Government only what they send to the Federal Treasury.  Since  Read More...

The campaigned on jobs, jobs and more jobs. What happened? It's now all about cutting entitlements and ridding corporations of those nasty oversight guys.

The GOP put themselves in an awkward position because if they make deep budget cuts their voters may revolt against them and if they don't make deep enough cuts then the tea baggers will try to unseat them with their own candidates. How's that tea bagging thingy working out for you now GOP?

Its interesting to see that the GOP really have lost the connection with average people.

In Australia we argue about tidying up the tax system and getting the balance right but after a few election cycles of conservative governments and some tax cuts people started demanding better government services.

It appears that most people are happy to pay their taxes as long as they see them being well spent.

Out marginal tax rates are very similar to the US and we have a consumption tax as well. There is no reason that the US could not enjoy similar services if they chose to.

What is happening now with the GOP cutting services for the most needy is just evil.

Perhaps the Dems should talk about the "Abortion Increasing Cuts to Planned Parenting"

So the pubs missed the boat. Who would've thunk it. It's getting absolutely ridiculous. First they were blocking the Dems last year with filibusters, now they're bullying the American people, as well as the Dems, and spitting in our faces. GROW UP.

That is all.

What has congress accomplished exactly of significance? NOTHING!

These budget cuts are simply going to rile a lot of people off and now they are trying to dismantle unions. They've already lost 2012 if this keeps going on.

Not only that but the cuts are only 60 billion which is hardly even a chunk of the debt. Not only this but they are over reaching in a way that doesn't surprise me but surprises me that others didn't see this happening. They are going to destroy this country over class warfare and its scaring the hell out of me.

And their argument would be....? -We're just going with the pyroclastic flow; there's no such thing as global warming. Or perhaps... -Why worry, the Tea Party can always be bought off with all this new corporate cash. or, more likely.... It's a redistricting year: If we're going to turn back the coming demographic tsunam of true democracy we'd better go all in.
