Rush Limbaugh: Michelle Obama 'Doesn't Look Like' She Eats Healthy Foods (AUDIO)

First Posted: 02/21/11 01:41 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Rush Limbaugh called Michelle Obama a hypocrite on his Monday show, saying that, while the First Lady advocates healthy eating, she "doesn't look like [she] follows her own...dietary advice" and would never be put on the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue.

Limbaugh was reacting to a report from Colorado which mentioned that Obama ate ribs at a restaurant during her skiing holiday there this past weekend. He said this was evidence of Obama's hypocrisy around food.

Obama's campaign to curb obesity and promote healthy eating has come under frequent attack by many conservatives, who have cast it as an example of big government overreach. Last week, a controversial cartoon depicted Obama as overweight and binging on hamburgers even as she talked about eating healthy foods.

"If we're supposed to go out and eat nothing, if we're supposed to eat roots and berries and tree bark, show us how," Limbaugh said. He continued:

"The problem is, and dare I say this, it doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice. And then we hear that she's out eating ribs at 1,500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat per serving...I'm trying to say that our First Lady does not project the image of women that you might see on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue or of a woman Alex Rodriguez might date every six months or what have you."

Want to discuss hypocrisy, Limbaugh? How about rambling on about the sanctity of marriage when you, yourself, have been married 4 times. Michelle Obama doesn't ever say to cut out all bad foods all the time - moderation and exercise are key. Her message is that moderation and exercise will prevent obesity and promote health. Which, in turn, will save billions (upon billions) of dollars in government aid for weight related diseases.

Uh, Rush, I hate to be the one to break this common news to you, but there are lots of very thin women that aren't Sports Illustrated model material either. Also, optimal health is more than just what someone looks like on the outside. For starters, a person's cholestorol, blood sugar and blood pressure status can help to determine how healthy someone is or isn't. Of course these health factors are not apparent to your phyical eyes.

Rush looks into the mirror and thinks that he's a candidate for the Jet Set Men Muscle 2011 Wall Calendar.

Rush, meet irony. Irony, Rush. Clearly you've never met before.

Side note, I find it terribly entertaining that the only thing El Rushbo can find to attack Michelle Obama about is her eating habits, which are far, far better than the majority of Americans that don't have access to a private chef. Michelle, when confronted with opportunity and privelege, takes a moderated approach to nutrition, while the corpulent pill popper chooses excess and indulgence. Further, health is about moderation, not adherence to an aesthetic ideal, as Rush seems to intimate. So, from this simple tirade, we can see how truly misogynistic he is (as if there was any doubt) and we also get to see his hypocrisy (again, not that there was any doubt). While neither are anything new, it's rare that we get that honest a look into his psyche in one fell swoop

Hey Republican Women, how do you feel about the spokesman for the Republicans (and your husbands) saying you're not taking care of yourself or look healthy unless you look like a model on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition?

It's nothing new. Feminism, and it's offshoot dedicated to confronting the unrealistic ideal of media, is a wholly progressive phenomenon. You don't see right-wing women clamoring for fewer rights and more objectification, so the entire concept of the mutability of personal taste and asethetic is simply lost on the GOP. The nuance is far too fine for them to capture with platitudes and bumper sticker slogans

When Ann Coulter isn't chastised by her fellow RWNJs for saying women shouldn't be allowed to vote, then it sure looks like they are acquiescent, at least, to the idea of fewer rights for women.

Also, they are anti choice, which preemptively insures woman will be forced into motherhood and out of the workplace, in many cases. This limits their right to work.

You are absolutely right that feminism is is a wholly progressive phenomenon. Right Wing women crave, apparently, getting approval for subjugating themselves. Right Wing men have such low egos that only women who lower themselves are given approval.

But back to Rush and Right Wing women. I just wanted to hear it from them that they accept Rush's words, and yes, they don't care of themselves and are unhealthy.

So far, no one wants to defend and agree with Rush. Except this one poster "new beginning" who says it's a waste of effort on Michelle Obama's part to speak up on this issue because women won't listen. I think she means her fellow Republican women, but she's pretty angry and unclear, so she could be saying anything. She says there's no proof Rush doesn't like Mrs. Obama. baffling.

Rush, if she ate them everyday like you, you might have an argument.

But she doesn't AND she exercises, and eats right the rest of the time.

This is level-one chess, Rush. But then, your followers aren't critical thinkers, are they?

Just hyenas.

Is Rush suggesting that Michelle should go on hillbilly heroin to lose weight like he did?
06:37 PM on 02/26/2011
This isn't about Ms. Obama's weight or agenda. It isn't about the President's agenda, or how successful his is, or his mistakes. It isn't about what church he goes to, or where he was born. It is a sad truth that it is all about the viral hate some people have for an African American in the White House.

Funny thing is Rush ate the assistant that wrote this attack for him. So let's see, he insulted a woman's weight, made a sexist statement, and shown blatant ignorance of what a diet actually is. It's almost as if he is just saying outrageous things to be controversial. Nobody could actually listen to this garbage right? Right?

Or, OK, do that. You just become more of a joke.

No, Limbaugh, she's in good shape. You're just commenting on the natural body shape of black women.

I'd keep the racial/sexist components and just say that he's commenting on the natural dispersion of the shapes of human bodies. As he should be acutely aware, some people are naturally larger and some are naturally smaller
