Businesses In Other Cities Love Using 'Brooklyn' In Their Name

Other Cities Think 'Brooklyn' Is The Hottest Brand Since, Well, 'NYC'

Brooklyn is more than a borough on the up-and-up--it's a brand.

It seems like these days you can't throw a vintage lamp without hitting a homemade craft food company with a Kings County suffix attached.

And, of course, let's not forget that Brooklyn (well, Williamsburg) even has its own Camel cigarette.

Now, other cities across the country are taking notice.

Brooklyn Ink notes, that in the 20 largest cities excluding New York, there are "67 distinct businesses that feature Brooklyn in their names."

"Brooklyn has a flavor all its own and people know it," said ad agency alum Jason Rapport. "If Manhattan is filet mignon, Brooklyn is hangar steak. Both flavorful and fine cuts of meats, but some people like their steak a little tougher."

Los Angeles alone has 12 Brooklyn-branded businesses.

Most of them are bagel shops and pizza places, but there is also a pet grooming place in Chicago, a beauty salon in Charlotte and a software business in Boston.

"Often these businesses are owned by former Brooklynites," said Robin Zucker, who owns Zucker Public Relations in New York. "They use that authenticity to build and boost their brand."

Not every city has a crush on Brooklyn. San Antonio, Indianapolis, Columbus and Baltimore do not have any businesses with Brooklyn monikers (what the hell, San Antonio?).
