The American Independent:

DENVER-- In the week since state Senator Pat Steadman introduced his civil unions bill here, gay rights group OneColorado and Colorado Springs-based Christian-right organization Focus on the Family have rallied supporters with press releases and calls to action. OneColorado argues in favor of the bill, saying it's a matter of equality and of economic fairness. Focus on the Family argues against the bill, but not because it opposes civil unions, which it concedes most fair-minded people will support, but rather because it believes civil unions lead to legally recognized same-sex marriage.

I misread the headline. Even the ironically named anti-gay group NOM is against civil unions, SOMETIMES...

Focus on the Family is an evil cult and needs to be disbanded.
They say 'civil unions are supported by most fair-minded people'  but they're scared to death that 'civil unions will lead to legally recognized same-sex marriage.'

Doesn't that make it very clear that this issue is strictly semantics... all in what the interpretation of what one word 'marriage' means? I'd still like to know who was the first person to define 'marriage' ?

As for me, a 'fair-minded' lesbian - when offered a 'civil union' concession... it's like throwing me a dogbone - something to appease and pacify me. When actually 'marriage' is offered to me (soon happening) then I'll know that it is a federally recognized 'word' that will allow me (and millions like me) the very same benefits & privileges that other American citizens take for granted already.

Yes, "Megiddo," I went to Bible College, graduated valedictorian, and worked in conservative churches for six years. Amazing what gays can accomplish.

Megiddo claims: God believes it's important for the righteous to judge the wicked.

But that isn't in the wholly babble. According to their fairytale, "God" will judge the wicked. Believers are to judge themselves and fellow believers.

Furthermore, nowhere in the babble does it say that homosexuality is "wicked." It is pronounced an abomination, but never wicked.

I love your comments Steve - and choice words like 'babble'  and 'fairytale.'
And you're very right - nowhere in the 'wholy babble' is the word homosexual... it's all in the interpretation that suits the bigots' needs.

Used to live in Denver; and now see that Focus of the Family is still a dreaded cult in CO Springs... I truly wonder how many members are in that group and is it all made up of incestual-members of the same family like the Westboro Church in Kansas? I hear in-breeding causes much bigotry and ignorance.

And FYI: "Abomination" is translated from the Hebrew word "toevah". Unlike the alarmist connotations of the word abomination, the more appropriate translation for toevah is "ritually unclean." Unfortunately for the haters, ritually unclean isn't nearly as inflammatory.

I feel sorry for right-wing alarmists, they're quickly running out of ammo and their platform is shrinking.

Gays and lesbians are getting married and the heterosexual divorce rate still hovers over 50-percent.

Groups like FOTF try to pin horrors on G/L marriage, like natural disasters, economic downfall and the diminishing size of Girl Scout Cookie boxes. But fewer and fewer are buying it.

Now that most people have dire economic concerns, the cries for money to fight against scary homosexuals just don't ring as loudly or frantically.

The problem with mean-spirited people like Focus on the Family is that they have nothing positive to say. They may stir up voters' anger and fear for a while, but it takes so much energy to sustain those emotions that eventually, if the group stirring the pot has nothing positive to say (or any new arguments), people lose interest and the hate group[ loses steam.

That's what I see happening in Colorado. People who just don't have the erergy to sustain hatred against gay people --- especially as they become aware that most homogamous couples are pretty ordinary, non-threatening folks (dare I say the words "Just like THEM?") --- the arguments of haters and busybodies like those who make up the ranks of Focus on the Family just become tiresome, annoying, silly and obnoxious.

I'm convinced the human race basically has a "Live and Let Live" mentality. I believe fair-minded people are looking for a co promise solution to the "agy marriage problem" and they apparently are landing on civil unions  for the time being. I personally would prefer marriage for everybody or civil unions for everybody and believe that is what will ultimately happen because we gays are going to tenaciously hold on, like a dog on a bone. (And I don't care; if the comedians in the crowd jump on that "bone" remark, have at it. I'll laugh along with you.)
