Apple Ipad 2 Event Invitation

Well, it's official: Apple has just sent out invitations to a press event being held March 2 in San Francisco.

"Come see what 2011 will be the year of," Apple's invitation reads. A large "2" features prominently on an iCal-like design over what appears to be the edge of an iPad.

The next generation iPad is predicted to be the star attraction at the event. "Apple will hold its much-anticipated event on March 2, where the tech giant seems poised to unveil a new version of its hugely successful iPad, according to multiple sources," All Things Digital wrote.

UPDATE: Apple COO Tim Cook said during an Apple shareholder meeting Wednesday that people should "look at the invitation" to Apple's March 2 event--"It might give you some clues," Cook explained.

See the invitation below, then tell us what you think Apple will be announcing:

What will Apple announce at its March 2 event?

  • New MacBook

  • New iPad

  • New iPhone

  • New iPod

  • None of the above

260 dollars -- the google road number in the graphic? :) I like their products, and I have the iphone 4 and an ipad... but won't be getting a new iPad anytime soon. Interested to see how they can compete. Are they going to be leaping ahead? Or, will they just cover enough ground to avoid being obsolete. In my opinion, the iPhone 4 lacked a lot of features I saw in other phones at the time of its release. But, my AT&T contract kept me feeling like the upgrade was better than nuttin'. OK, I babbled enough about it. :) Thanks for listening.

Although I am sure that the iPad2 will be greatly improved over iPad1, I will wait until iPad 3 or even as late as iPad5 when the iPad will be a fully functioning personal computer. It WILL eventually happen.

New MacBook Pro is coming out within the next week. Possibly tomorrow. You heard it here first.

So the one question no one has yet breached.....

How much with the current iPad be discounted to clear inventory?
07:37 AM on 02/24/2011
Used 16GB WiFi models go for $350 on EBay, so a new one would still be over $400
Likely they'll keep the current model, and reduce it's price, like they did with iPods and iPhones.
A lot of people have no interest in video chat or cameras or whatever the newer model brings.
They could keep buying the current model.

I think it is pretty obvious that it will be the iPad 2.   I think the bigger question will be what will the iPad 2 need to have in order to be surprizing.

I think that it will be pretty obvious that the second generation will have at least one and more likely two cameras, but that is little more than playing catchup with the rest of the smartphone market.  A dual core processor again is looking pretty comparable to the better Android tablets out there.  As is better resolution.

So I am wondering, apart of course from the apple logo, what they might be able to announce that would represent a leapfrog over the Xoom or Galaxy Tab.

It is a TOY. I wish everyone could simply admit to that fact and not feel the need to elevate the little thing into something it is not. It's a toy, and that's great, why shouldn't you be able to buy a toy for yourself (toy for me meaning something you buy not out of a need but because you want it for the fun of it), but please STOP deifying apple's products.

Actually it is not a toy by any means. It can be a toy and you can hand it to your kid to play games on but it is a full-fledged computing device capable of advanced computing you simply won't find on any other "pad" now or in the near future. It's a TV ... it's a movie theater ... it's a book reader ... it's a composer ... it is a mail machine ... it is a 'Net surfing machine ... geez, I could go on and on ....

okay, to all of you who use it as a tool, i am deeply sorry to have offended (your reaction to my opinion in a way proves my point). but all those who wait in line all night are waiting for a new toy, regardless of its uses.

You are reading too much into the water droplets. All Apple Fans know that the water droplet image is a standard Apple device background that demonstrates the clarity and crispness of the display itself.

I am interested to see how the iPad has been updated. I fear it will have far fewer upgrades then I am hoping for but I will anxiously await the announcement. Will Steve present? Might be odd to not see him standing up there is his trademark attire.

Every current iPad owner wants something specific and Apple is very good at giving customers an experience they won't find elsewhere. Where's the floppy disk today? Gone - all because Apple said it wasn't needed and we're now seeing the end of optical drives (CDRoms!) because everything is going the way of cloud computing and that makes machines like the MacBook Air - as light as a feather!

It isn't likely Steve will present the iPad altho it is entirely possible. Tim Cook and the ever creative Jon Ivy are both completely capable of running Apple - Cook is as dedicated as Jobs ever was and Ivy is just incredibly creative. I love Steve but if he stepped down tomorrow I know my Apple stock is in very good hands.

Judging by the iPad in the background and the giant "2" on the face, I'm guessing they are going to start a second line of GIANT iPODS! It makes PERFECT SENSE!

I heard one of the new perks is you get a free Chinese human soul with each device. It's great because I'm a soulless American consumer!

What Chinese human soul made your computer?
05:26 PM on 02/23/2011
The company that made his computer he posts with is not trying to implement change in China. They haven't made any rules for their suppliers, or actually audited the factories to check that the rules were being followed.
That's what Apple did, and reported the abuses they found. I think it's admirable that they're doing this. Lots of bashers, though, are smugly making comments about "poor souls" on a computer that might have come out of the same facility.

"False, Foxcomm is who they have always done business with."

They do business with a LOT of factories, and work on improving them.
When they find offenders that try to bribe or falsify documents, they actually end those contracts.

The Map on the screen hints that it now will have a GPS receiver on board... should be a great travel device with that addition.
07:42 AM on 02/24/2011
it has a GPS already?
