U.S. Smoking Bans, State By State

Smoking bans are big news these days; most recently, New York City's new law forbidding residents from lighting up in parks, beaches and public plazas is causing a stir.

In the U.S., 38 states have some kind of state-wide legislated action banning smoking, and small exceptions abound for each.

Not sure what your state's stance on cigarettes is? We went through the American Lung Association's comprehensive compilation of smoking bans to get the goods on all 50 states. Check out the list to see the rules (and exceptions) in your neck of the woods.

No statewide ban. Smoking is restricted in certain public places, government buildings, childcare centers and health facilities, but restaurant owners can designate their spot a smoking facility.
