Space Shuttle Discovery Launch: When And How To Watch

How To Watch The Space Shuttle Launch

The space shuttle Discovery has been fueled and ready to launch for a while now, and it seems as if everything is on track for the scheduled 4:50:19 p.m. EST launch.

There's a number of ways to watch Discovery's final flight:

  • NASATV: Perhaps the easiest way to watch the launch is right on your computer. There should be commentary leading up to the launch.

  • On a Playstation 3: You can watch the launch through Playstation Home on the Loot Sunset Yacht, a premium PS3 service.
  • On TV: Try HDNet, which is supposed to be showing the launch starting from 4:30 pm EST (check local listings).
  • You could always watch it live: If you happen to live close enough to see it in person, but don't have tickets to view the event from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (they're scarce and limited ), you can always try Space View Park.

    From Space.com:

One of the most popular locations is Space View Park in Titusville, Fla., just across the Indian River from Kennedy Space Center.

"I would definitely say go to Titusville - that's the best view and the closest view you can get without having tickets," said Ben Cooper, a space photographer for NASA and other media outlets. "Anywhere along the river is good."
