Mybloglog

Bye-bye MyBlogLog. Beleaguered overlord Yahoo has announced it will be closing shop on the service, which lets people track who is visiting their blogs and websites.

The news isn't a stunner: MyBlogLog was in the "sunset" category on Yahoo's leaked internal slides.

Users received the following note (via TechCrunch) letting them know that MyBlogLog will close on May 24:

MyBlogLog is toast, but I also think BlogCatalog, Entrecard, CMFAds…etc all are likely to not last long, I see the widgets. Even Facebook is likely to kill NetworkedBlogs as they integrate Fanpages with blogs more I predict. It is becoming more seamless the integration between blog and Facebook which makes the whole point of NetworkedBlogs useless.

Waleed, I respect your opinion though your prediction about BlogCatalog going the way of MyBlogLog will miss the mark by many miles.

Over the next few months BlogCatalog will be rolling out products focused at bloggers that facebook will not duplicate, and neither will networked blogs. We will be adding so much value to bloggers -- that is the luxury of being a niche social community with some of the webs most vocal participants that a blogger would be silly not to be a member of blogcatalog.

To define a social network by its widgets is shortsited though we continue to have a base of over 75,000 widgets and many other gadgets on blogs. Our strategy is not a widget or data collection strategy. Our long term strategy is much more solid than that. We will be the voice of the blogosphere within a couple of years.

As of now we are going to stop the closure of MyBlogLog. http://www.bloggersunite.org/event/stop-yahoo-from-shutting-down-mybloglog as BlogCatalog also owns BloggersUnite.org one of the largest groups of bloggers who blog for social causes. When profit is not your sole motive you have a much sounder platform on which to build your business than if you are Yahoo who has to answer to it's public shareholders.

Best, Tony Berkman CEO BlogCatalog
