Michael Secaur, Homeless Michigan Man, Seeks Diamond Ring Owner To Return Donation

Homeless

02/25/11 01:18 PM ET   AP

PONTIAC, Mich. — A homeless man in southeast Michigan says a woman accidentally gave him a gold ring laced with diamonds when she handed him a handful of change.

Michael Secaur tells The Oakland Press that he was panhandling at an intersection in Pontiac on Monday when a woman pulled up in a vehicle and handed him some money. He says the ring was among some coins, and that he thinks she "did an oops."

Secaur says he would recognize the woman if he saw her again.

He says he quickly dismissed a plan to pawn the ring. The owner of a shelter where Secaur often stays has locked it in a safety deposit box.

Secaur says he has lived on the streets of Pontiac for nearly two years.

It seems some believe that the purpose of life is to gather the biggest pile of money. Oddly money isn't anything they can even define beyond "a piece of paper".

When I was about 7 or 8 a wise woman told me the purpose of life was to bring yourself honor. That was an awful long time ago and I still find that task daunting. I think Mr. Secaur has brought himself honor.

Oh, I have also found that honor isn't something many can easily define.

A decent, honest person who has nothing does the right and ethical thing.

While the global elite whine and complain about losing a few pennies on their return on investment - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/28/hsbc-foreclosure-fraud-investigation_n_829211.html.

This guy should have their money.

Thank you, homeless man! I've been avoiding my fiance for days 'cause I know he'd question me about the ring. How can I have been so careless? Been looking for it everywhere. I'll be in touch. You'll know it's me when you see the ring fit perfectly on my finger.

Seems that the only honest people in U.S. are the homeless and downtrodden ones. The rich are crooks who continue to screw the nation. How about a collection on the Huffpo for this homeless man?

Good idea, why don't you start it, somebody has to. Let me know.
All you need is to go to the bank, open the account, Mr. _________, tell people
to send checks, deposited them, then get in touch with the guy through the newspaper.

Went to the store today. My wife asked me to pick up tampons for her. I noticed when I went down the isle, the entire section of Summers Eve was missing. Now I know where it all went...to France.

Pawn shops wouldn't really give him what it is worth anyways. The ring very likely was given to him by accident and may have some sentimental value. He is doing a very good thing. Though if he had decided to sell it and use the money to turn his life around for the better (see a dentist, get some haircuts, see a therapist, seek work), he would still be doing a good thing, IMO. The ring is merely a material possession.
