Natalie Portman Hits Hollywood Fete In $50 H&M Dress (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 02/25/11 04:18 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Pregnant Natalie Portman stepped out to the "Vanity Fair Campaign Hollywood 2011's Richard Mille Toasts Fox Searchlight Films" fete in Hollywood on Thursday night in a $49.95 H&M dress, Racked reports.

The frock is part of the brand's "Conscious Collections," "an ongoing range of women's, men's, and kid's wear constructed of greener and eco-friendlier materials including organic cotton, organic linen, recycled polyester, and Tencel, a renewable material that's produced with minimal environmental impact" that will hit shelves April 14.

Portman's red carpet moment marks another win for the fast fashion purveyor -- just several weeks ago, First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on "The Today Show" in a $34.95 H&M dress.

Take a look and tell us what you think.

Quick Poll

Natalie's dress:

LOVE it! And would never guess it's H&M.

LEAVE it! And would never guess it's not a nightgown.

I think she looks cute. I have to say that's why I love H&M.

I like it, it suits her. H&M has a way of looking very expensive. I would have had to wear belt with it though...

Nothing wrong with it costing 50 $ - or 25, or 15 $, for that matter.
I just wish it weren't ugly (in my opinion, obviously).

Without those frills and the oversized lace and the strangely conspicuous hem it might have been a nice dress.

Natalie looks pretty in anything!

Upon second glance, it does sort of look like one's First Communion dress, or maybe an American Girl doll nightgown...so, lighten-up, I doubt she'll be making a habit of spending sprees H & M. Anyone with a scintilla of fashion sense and who has had the opportunity to wear quality, designer (or not) well-tailored, figure-flattering clothing can quickly eyeball the difference. I still give her a thumbs up for wearing it...she is pregnant so we will let it go this time!

The dress seems a bit naif, a bit short, and a bit cool for February, even in California. Aside from that, she looks beautiful...but when doesn't she?

Its great to see stars embrace affordable fashion. More often than not we are inundated with images of gowns that cost more than a year's salary! Kudos to Natalie for showing you don't have to mortgage your house to look chic! The big question is.. will the Israeli born actress wear the Dior gown she chose for the Oscar's in light of designer John Galliano's arrest for allegedly uttering Anti-Semitic slurs at a couple in Paris?? Guess we'll see which side of the fence she's on tonight!

I think she looks very pretty. This dress is reflective of the conservative styles she has worn while pregnant. The fact that the dress is of organic and recycled fabric may have played a part in her choosing it as she is a known vegan. I think the dress photographs well; the lace looks like it could be expensive. I would have never known the dress was from H&M.
