Georgia Girl Scout Troop's Cookie Booth Shut Down By Police (VIDEO)

A Georgia Girl Scout troop selling cookies Wednesday must not have had enough badges of honor to gain the trust of police.

Troop 7984 had set up shop at a strip mall when a police officer told the group to pack up their boxes and go get a peddler's permit, WXIA-TV reports.

Troop leader Kathy Crook says they had to turn away the customers who were ready to buy.

One Girl Scout says the girls were actually frightened.

"It was scaring us because we thought all the adults were going to go to jail."

The mayor said it was a veteran police officer who questioned the troop and that it was simply a misunderstanding.

To make amends, the city is offering the Girl Scouts a pizza party and a tour of the police department.

It was meant to be a shake down for some free cookies, but it all went wrong when someone started filming.

Really, Officer? Girl Scouts? Selling cookies? Didn't need a permit when I was growing up.

Bad packet of Samoas last year?

HOWEVER, if they weren't MEANT to get a permit beforehand - then, yes, the Troop Leaders need to be held responsible for not following regulations.

Well it was nice to see no kiddies were tasered in the making of the arrest.

Yes, you're right, although being filmed never stopped them before from doing their 'duty'.

So, the kids get a pizza party and a tour of the station as a reward for breaking the law.

Pathetic....as are their parents for suggesting that they should be able to break the law just because they are girl scouts.

So, Wall Street get billions of dollars of tax payers money for breaking the law?

Pathetic...as are the people that keep voting for the GOP!!

Leave the Girl Scouts alone. They at least don't hurt anyone.

Think it's a good idea to take the girl's sale to the mall. More customers in shorter time
than going door to door. Besides, in today's day & age, going door to door without
(or even with) adult accompaniment could be dangerous.
Officer probably on his way to buy coffee & donuts & doesn't like the cookies.
Police department should buy up a major portion of the girls' cookies.

A "misunderstanding"? Hardly.......
This incident could have been handled without involving the children. If this how their "veteran" officers handle such trivial concerns....I really feel sorry for the citizens of this town...

I'm curious - how would you do that? The kids are there, selling cookies without the needed permit, and the officer talks to the Troop Leader. Is he supposed to take her so far away that the kids are not aware that he's talking to her? Then who's watching the kids?

The police and mayor already suggested that it could have been handled better - that's the misunderstanding. What is your solution? And did you bother to watch the report?

The question is why they are required to have a permit at all.
When did we reach the point that all actions not expressly approved by government are forbidden unless one buy's a license from the government?
What's my solution? Get rid of bogus regulations that are only intended to transfer earnings from those doing the work to those running the government.
