Louis Farrakhan: Libya's Muammar Gaddafi Remains A Friend

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) -- Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said Sunday that he considers Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi a friend and won't distance himself from him despite the deadly crackdown on protestors in the turbulent North Africa country.

Farrakhan didn't talk specifics about the uprisings in Libya as he spoke to thousands of followers during his Chicago-based organization's annual convention in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont.

"Name one ruler that has the 100 love of his people," Farrakhan said. "You can't find one."

Gaddafi is in the midst of a desperate and increasingly violent bid to retain power, and has used his military and foreign mercenaries to try to crush the revolt.

Farrakhan, 77, visited Gaddafi in the 1980s and has since considered him a friend. He said that if Gaddafi is persecuted for crimes against humanity, the same should apply to former President George W. Bush for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also said the U.S. shouldn't intervene in Libya with an armed response.

"I'm warning you this is a Libyan problem, let the Libyans solve their problem," he said.

Farrakhan also said he expects that uprisings happening in the Middle East will soon come to the U.S. He mentioned Tunisia, Egypt and other countries but didn't offer specifics on his stance on the unrest, except to say that leaders should not attack innocent protesters.

Farrakhan's speech Sunday capped off a weekend of events celebrating Saviours' Day, which celebrates the movement's founder. Muslims at the four-hour speech - women dressed in white skirt suits with matching hijabs and men in Nation of Islam uniforms - frequently cheered the minister.

The Nation of Islam has espoused black nationalism and self-reliance since it was founded in the 1930s, though in recent years has included other groups including Latinos and immigrants.

Farrakhan's speech touched on a wide range of historic topics through the lens of the Nation of Islam, including several severe weather incidents and a history of Shriners and freemasons. He also spoke at length about Scientology; Farrakhan has recently embraced some concepts of the religion.

Farrakhan also spoke of the Nation's belief in UFOs and the belief that sightings are on the rise.

The group has long believed in an unidentified flying object called "the wheel" or "The Mother Plane." A Saviours Day session on the topic Saturday attracted a standing-room-only crowd.

Another war by stealth to save civilians who happen to have guns, rockets, tanks and are trigger happy. Any time the rebels make gains they are called pro democracy fighters when they lose ground they are civilians.

Libya is a tribal society and there is nothing democratic about the rebels. They overpowered a military base with force, looted the arms and threatened the state. They also demonstrated their racism by killing African workers and claiming that they were mercenaries despite showing no proof. They talk about civilians being killed but what government allows armed thugs who kill people in cold blood to have a free rein.

I doubt if the USA,UK or France would allow armed thugs to seize a military base, burn police stations and symbols of government.

The conflict in Libya shows that the Press is merely an extension of the government. All the journalists do is show mobile phone pictures. The same press that supported the war in Iraq based on the evidence of Curveball who made up stories for a monthly stipend of 3,000 dollars.

This war also shows Obama in his true colours. He is liar, a con artist and a fraud. . At least George Bush did not lie about what he represented. This Obama guy tells more lies than Colin Powell. He said Gitmo would close but its still open, expands the war in Afghanistian, Iraq, launches war against Libya plans for war against Iran.

Change we can believe in.

I'm amazed that so many people here obviously did not take the time to find a video of most of the speech. It's available on youtube in two long sections. Listen for yourself without the filters of other people prejudicing you one way or the other. There's also a rather lengthy segment of a radio program from Chicago where he is saying much the same things. I find myself not only understanding what he is saying and where he is coming from but he raises a number of very valid points. I believe we owe it to ourselves to listen and watch Mr. Farrakhan's speeches because he seems to have not only a more global perspective but has been shown to be absolutely correct time and time again. You may not like the rhetoric but he is correct.

Moammar Gadhafi may remain a personal friend to Minister Farrakhan, and perhaps to Hugo Chavez as well. I know a guy who got his sense of style from Moammar Gadhafi and used it to pick up alternative scene chicks here in the USA, believe it or not.

But none of this can protect Moammar Gadhafi from his own hubris in regards to his own people. Nobody who doesn't live in Libya can tell people they shouldn't demonstrate as they did in Egypt.

Nobody can rightly say Moammar Gadhafi is right to allow demonstrators to be shot. Nobody can rightly say his air force pilots were wrong to take their jets to Malta. Nobody can rightly endorse the slogans he's been using about "the last bullet" or "the last man or woman".

Hugo Chavez and Minister Farrakhan have done as much as Moammar Gadhafi could hoped for. Neither one of them are in the same position. They've expressed solidarity, but it won't be enough to keep Gadhafi from having to reconcile with the opposition and relinquish command of national security and claims to national resources.

Nobody can tell Gadhafi "he must go". He has nowhere to go. The topic of crimes against humanity has been raised, but not in any official capacity. That is part of the reconciliation process.

Also, Louis Farrakhan apparently did not enjoy Rihanna's 'S&M'. That's fine, but her fans are not swine. Maybe the stress made her want another tattoo, which would not please me.

Goes to show how un traveled and uneducated you are.. Your comment would suggest that people who say Black Power only live in teh ghetto and rog brannies at ATM machines.

If you had half a brain you would remember there were Few that hit the big time in Germany.. around the late 1930s...... and live in Switzerland today.. There is nothing wrong with White power.. as long as it is used as simply as Black power..

"I'm warning you this is a Libyan problem, let the Libyans solve their problem," he said.

To me this is like listening to your neighbor beating his wife through the walls of the condo complex, and doing nothing. All the while telling your own wife ... "Oh shush dear, Let them handle it."

Sometimes, morality compels you to get involved.
