Colbert: 'Clearly, Anonymous Hacked My Show' (VIDEO)

If you watched last Thursday's "Colbert Report" frame-by-frame (or on the Internet the next day) you might have seen a mysterious Guy Fawkes mask superimposed onto Stephen Colbert's face. On Monday night's show, Colbert finally got to address the mask known as the symbol of Anonymous, a "shadowy alliance of anarchist hackers" (as Colbert puts it) and expressed his utter surprise at what we suspected was a planned bit.

"Clearly, Anonymous hacked my show," Colbert said. "It's no surprise. I'm pretty sure they've been hacking my bathroom scale for years."

As for the suspicions that Colbert had "joined" Anonymous, Colbert put that rumor to bed right away:

"The only way I'd be a member of something called 'Anonymous' is if my name was Stephen Anonymous."

But Colbert isn't the only one getting "Pwned" by Anonymous, as if that's really what happened. Right after Colbert's "incident," Anonymous targeted the website of Americans For Prosperity, the Koch brothers' organization which supports Wisconsin Governor Walker's current fight against the unions there.

Watch the rest of the segment below to hear Colbert's advice for Anonymous on how they can really mess with the AFP website, and witness Colbert's message for his would-be hackers.

By drawing attention to my simple statement that could easily have been a typo for anyone not belonging to a Supar Secrete Clubhaus you have shown yourself to be no more than a meme man. Give your card back at the door.

There is a new Axis of Evil in the world and it is populated by our oligarchs. If you think the gulf between the wealthy and middle classes is wide, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

This is true. It needs to be seen, understood, and stopped.

Watched the interview with Scheuer from that day...what a waste. I love the show, but sometimes the format with Colbert's conservative character is just frustrating. Wish he's been on the Daily Show.

Agree 100%. Colbert's show is terrific and very funny but...

...the interviews is just an improv vehicle for Stephen and a waste of guest talent (and viewer attention). All the guests do essentially is play 'straight man' to Colbert's know-nothing character.

You are right, those interviews often miss the mark, but occasionally some interesting and informative tidbits come out of them. If nothing else, he brings awareness to intellectuals in the world that have few other vehicles of mass promotion. I've certainly become aware of a few great authors from his show alone, that I would otherwise never would have discovered.

Jon Stewert does this to a degree, but you do get a bit more Hollywood from him. So while Colbert's interviews sometimes annoy the hell out of me, they do bring much needed awareness to some intellectuals of the world. And he does it in a more palatable manner than some of the other more dry and dreary outlets.

Colbert is the direct comedic descendant of Abraham Lincoln's humorist, Petroleum Nasby. Here's a pearl from PN: I didn’t put these thots uv mine upon paper for amoozement. There hezn’t bin anythin amoozin in Dimocrisy for the past five years. See more of Nasby's writings at http://www.savinglincoln.com/lincoln/

Indeed.
