Taken with the idea of crafting his own brand of beer, Sam Calagione left his writing program at Columbia University in New York City in 1993 to apprentice at a brewery in Maine. One year later, Calagione built his own brewery using recycled kegs in the resort town of Rehoboth Beach on the Delaware shore.

A friend of mine just started his own micro brewery with his wife. They are doing great after just a year. They're already bringing in new equipment and they continue to expand production. The micro brewing community is very collegial and mutually supportive still full of startup enthusiasm. The new brewing renaissance is still maturing.

Next time I'm in the USA I'll be buying a case of 90 min IPA. Hopefully I'll eventually be able to find a bottle of the 120 as well.

What I like most about Dogfishhead is where they operate from. It's great to see microbrews not from the California/Oregon hop corridor doing well.

That being said, I'll take my west coast IPAs most days of the week, but Dogfishhead does have some great beers.

I would suggest this article to any new college grad, free of the burden of a family, hungry for success, young and energetic. Think for yourself and don't be afraid to slug it out in the trenches for several years, lke this guy did in 1993 when he learned the ropes. Working for someone else sucks. Create your own career, and control your own fate.

A 3 year old brewer in Conroe, Texas called Southern star has fabulous beers. Pine belt, my favorite is bitter, dark and hoppy, Blonde bombshell is lighter, they have a stout that my husband says is one of the best. Love their beer and hope they consider growing
