Universal Health Idea OK'd By Colorado Senate Panel

State Senate Panel OK's Universal Health Idea

A bill aiming to create a universal health care system in Colorado by examining the elimination of private insurance received approval from a Senate committee Monday.

Senate Bill 168, sponsored by Sen. Irene Aguilar, D-Denver, would set up a legislatively appointed body called the Colorado Health Care Authority for the purpose of designing a health care cooperative. The authority would recommend a universal health care system that could be run by the cooperative, and the proposal for that system would go to statewide voters for approval or denial.
