Michelle Obama & Jessica Alba Read Dr. Seuss In Style (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 03/02/2011 1:55 pm   Updated: 05/25/2011 6:35 pm

First Lady Michelle Obama had what looked like a super-fun morning reading Dr. Seuss' oeuvre to elementary school students during a kickoff event for the National Education Association (NEA) Read Across America Day, at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Also there? Jessica Alba and her daughter Honor -- we're not sure why, but we'll take it!

The first lady and the actress were aptly dressed for the occasion -- Michelle in a pink-and-white patterned shirt, a red skirt and a flower brooch and Alba in a floral frock. The only things missing? Two "Cat in the Hat" hats, one for each.

Take a look.

Seeing Michelle Obama read Dr. Seuss to those kids rubs the rightwingnuts the wrong way three ways: They h@te powerful black women, the h@te public schools, and they h@te books. (from "New Rules" last night - thank you, Bill Maher).

I've posted this before, but it's worth repeating: Kids absolutely do not fake their love for an adult, and the adult can't fake it, either. Look at slide #13.

The people who are criticizing the attire that Michelle Obama is wearing, truly don't get the genius that was Doctor Seuss. What Michelle wore absolutely paid homage to the color vision of an author I truly adored growing up.

Both Michelle and Jessica looked amazing beautiful and I wish I could have been there to relish in the celebration of Doctor Seuss!

Some people will search for anything to criticize our beautiful first lady..

I'm sure Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and Rush will come out against this and say it's okay to be dumb if you choose to be. Reading is not fundamental as we suppose.

Palin is a classic example of how trendy "DUMB" has become.

I am sure Limbaugh will now dismiss Dr. Seuss as liberal indoctrination of the youth.

oh -  i so agree ....

my children are older now --  but we still parrot lines from various Dr. Seuss books when we are goofing around.

even the youngest of children seem to tend to listen to the rhythmic words of the books.

@1088:

Thank you for posting this video! It brought back so many good memories. Childhood should be this fun and magical for every child, but sadly in the real world it isn't.

I think Michelle Obama's jovial outfit fits the occasion perfectly. It's Dr. Suess!
