Andrew Cuomo Snubs Archbishop Timothy Dolan

Timothy Dolan

Andrew Cuomo is a busy man.

The governor's schedule is so packed he couldn't squeeze in time to meet with Archbishop Timothy Dolan when he travels to Albany with other bishops for their annual conference next week.

From the Daily News:

The governor's decision puts him in the same league with disgraced-ex Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who hastily cancelled his 2008 meeting with the Catholic Conference because it took place on the same day his prostitution scandal erupted.

"That is the only time in recent history that there hasn't been a meeting," said Catholic Conference spokesman Dennis Poust.

The bishops had hoped to discuss issues such as state funding for education and gay marriage with the governor.

Cuomo has come out in support of gay marriage and has proposed funding cuts to New York's Catholic schools.

Cuomo's snub of Dolan comes a week after Catholic professor Edward Peters said the governor should not receive communion because he is not married to his live-in girlfriend, Food Network star Sandra Lee.

People don't respect the Catholic Church like they used to. The Church now as a reputation for

1) raping thousands of young children
2) hiding the truth about the rapes
3) never, ever doing anything to help the victims.

Why would Cuomo stop to talk to one of their leaders?

Obvious micromanaging move for Cuomo;

1) Attend the meeting, explain to the Archbishop that you are not moving on your positions and be verbally chastised and condemned face to face AND THEN take public heat for it

or

2) Just cancel the meeting, shore up time in your schedule, and take only public heat for it.

And yet the church continues to be a safe haven for pedophiles.

Glad to see it. Dolan deserves to be snubbed for his bigotry.

The Catholic Church should spend more time focusing on itself and its internal politics that allow for children to be exploited. As reported this year in Ireland, Germany, Poland, Holland, and Philadelphia.

They wanted to pressure Cuomo about gay marriage and they want money for their schools. It's time to get off this gay marriage thing--live and let live. As for the schools, Catholic parents pay the entire outrageous tuition most of the time. So really nothing to talk about.

Cuomo made the correct decision, and the Catholic church needs to start cleaning up its mess and start putting more intelligent and moral people in its leadership positions. Never mind pressuring the governor about a non-issue like gay marriage.

Why should he meet with them? The bishop's minds are already made up.

As a Catholic, I am thrilled that Governor Cuomo won't meet with Dolan. - The archbishop has no business mixing his religion with our government - unless of course he'd like to start paying income and property taxes on the Church's holdings and business interests.

It's one thing to not tax actual churches, but the catholic church owns BILLIONS of dollars worth of strictly commercial properties rented to private businesses in Manhattan alone, so why are there no property taxes due on these properties?

WHY?!?
04:36 PM on 03/06/2011
Don't forget the billions of dollars in real estate holdings throughout the world. More apartment buildings than you can count; commercial real estate, land. . .and all the while begging nickels and dimes from the sappy lemmings.

Thanks, but I already did. Years ago.

I did, now I'd like to see them pay taxes for their businesses that have nothing to do with religion, to pay for the abuse and cover up of molesting children, for picking on Catholic politicians they disagree with (both Cuomos) and ignoring Catholics who they favor (Mayor 9/11).

Separate the Church and State, he wants to meet the Governor as a citizen, get in line Dolan.

Even a non-Catholic politician would take time to meet with the bishops, I think this is a mistake on Cuomo's part.
