Tea Party Leader: 'Charlie Sheen Making More Sense Than John Boehner'

John Boehner Charlie Sheen

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/03/11 08:55 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Judson Phillips, leader of Tea Party Nation, one of the movement's largest national groups, expressed his disgust with the GOP's latest efforts to slash spending Wednesday, claiming that Charlie Sheen was more reasonable than Speaker of the House John Boehner.

"Charlie Sheen is now making more sense than John Boehner," Phillips wrote in a post on the group's website, CNN reports.

Phillips' fury appears to stem from a recent spending proposal, which passed a vote in the House. While it called for $61 billion in cuts in an effort to fund the government through September, Phillips suggested that the Republicans' goal was a clear sign that they'd been quick to abandon a prior target.

"Early on, the GOP promised to cut $100 billion from the budget," Phillips wrote, according to CNN. "The Republicans in the House quickly went squishy on that and had to be cajoled into cutting only $61 billion. Now, John Boehner is saying when the Senate comes back and they start negotiating...the $61 billion figure is not safe."

Politico reports the castigation didn't stop there, as Phillips called for "a candidate to run against John Boehner in 2012 and should set as a goal, to defeat in a primary, the sitting Speaker of the House of Representatives."

Though there have been few signs from Senate Democrats or President Obama that they would allow a $61 billion package of cuts to come to fruition -- much less one totaling $100 billion -- Phillips' display of frustration and anger is just the latest sign of growing rifts between devout Tea Partyers, who would like to see an uncompromising approach to addressing spending, and the majority of Republican legislators, who must deal with certain legislative realities surrounding the passage of a measure to fund the government.

Actually all Charlie Sheen behaviors are pretty bad, but considering that Boehner drinks a lot/smokes a lot-------Their addictions are similier to each other-------Those both have power hungry manner of grandier to! So I guess the comparisons aren't really that far apart! Sheen however gets mad on camera/goes into this long drawn out nonesense-------While Boehners Alcoholism makes him a crying drunk who doesn't articulate his words well while he often slurs them. NOW the crazy part of Sheen behavior is closer to that of WALKER who must think he also has tiger blood, an thinks he's everything to all people, an stand above everyone with a iron hand of control-----more like a dictator an his slaves.

If there was ever an indictment of the sanity of the Tea Party, this is it.

The GOP spent years tossing red meat to the wing-nut faction of their constituency.

Now the dogs are off their leash and they're biting the hand that fed them.

I love irony.

Good observation. They have invited this, to a great extent. Unlike a lot of people, I don't think true conservative thinking is at all nutty. Even tea party thinking is not INHERENTLY nutty. At its heart, it's a philosophy of government that would probably have been regarded as perfectly mainstream fifty years ago, and the current state of the federal government gives the argument for small government credibility.

But the true wingnuts are the religious right so-called SOCIAL conservatives, the conspiracy theorists who think Obama isn't a citizen, and the overtly or subtly racist elements of the Republican party and the Tea party. And guess what? The Republican party CAN NOT win the White House without them. Consequently, the Republican party has invited them in to the big tent and become dependent on them, and in the process they have turned the definition of conservatism on its head. Government should be small and have limited power, they say, but among those powers should be the right to tell you who you can marry, to tell you who can adopt children, to inject religion into public school curriculum. While preaching the sanctity of the Constitution and individual liberty, they erode both.

I regard myself as a conservative,as that term was once defined. And yet I voted for Obama, despite philosophical differences. Why? Because I have low tolerance, and true conservatives should have low tolerance, for the bigotry and incivility that is being tolerated in today's Republican party.

An unsolicited word of advice for the Speaker. Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

I, for one, believe Mr. Phillips owes Charlie an apology for including him in any comparison to Speaker Boehner (the eh is silent). Sheen has enough troubles these days without having to defend against this.

Seriously, it's time.

I'm not sure that's fair - until recently Charlie Sheen was holding it all together despite his drinking.

I love it. the dark forces fighting among themselfs. But It amazes me that they can seem to learn fron history, they need to look no farther than 1929 to see how well their theory on government works.

Gag. Retch. Barf. I find myself agreeing with a Teabagger on something. John Boehner IS comparable to Charlie Sheen.

Of course, so are most Teabaggers, too ...

Charlie's family must be so proud. He's finally reached his goal of being a person whose reputation is so bad that nearly anyone you compare him to looks good in comparisons. Thank goodness for Republicans and that Libyan dictator guy, or Charlie would undoubtedly be at the top of many people's lists for the worst person in the world ...

John is just another bait & switch Republican saying one thing then doing another. They play to their wealthy base and big corporations for their campaign contributions, where the Tea party contributes little or nothing except a continuous whine its there way or no way for them. It's no stretch to see John give in, especially with his part record. After the radical Republican Gov. has attacked bargining with unions, watch for the national attacks to follow with the Republican party losing badly in the next elextion cycle. John will really be whinning and cryiing then.

Not a fan of Sheen, but I think he has a good defamation suit here.

Somebody tell these Tea Party folks that they will NOT be running this country. They are a tiny minority of folks with an opinion. YOu can't just suggest an arbitrary number and expect it to be the law. This is the US economy not a Tea Party experiment with"how to collasp a government for political purposes". Even Boehner is not that crazy.

Tea Party folks the GOP just needed you for you excitment and gettting out the GOP vote. You are how dismissed will the adults handle the US economy. Thanks for your service. Now SCRAM, Love, the GOP folkes you put in office!

Please, Charlie only harms himself and those close to him with his behavior. Boehner has the power to screw up generations of Americans if  he is not stopped at the next ballot box.

Unfair comparison.

Charlie Sheen at least has a demonstrable body of work.
