McLobster Not Hitting McDonald's Nationwide

The Huffington Post

Twitter is abuzz with speculation that the McLobster might be hitting McDonald's nationwide.

But is it true?

Sadly, no. However, the product is certainly more than a legend -- it can be found occasionally among New England McDonald's locations.

The fast food giant felt it necessary to quell the misinformation on Twitter, but who knows, maybe after all the hype McDonald's might just get the idea to roll it out nationwide!

Crustaceans everywhere are rejoicing...there are no plans to bring McLobster or McSushi to our US menu. #sorryCharlie #McLobster #McSushiless than a minute ago via CoTweet

Then they took a more "Charlie Sheen" approach:

Despite all the rumors there r no plans 2 bring #mclobster or mcsushi 2 the US menu. We r working on a new menu item called McWinning.less than a minute ago via CoTweet

They then explained that, yes, there are a few places you can pick it up occasionally:

@elisabethos Yep!There r a few McD's on the east coast that may serve it time 2 time-but we don't have any plans to roll out nationally.^MYDless than a minute ago via CoTweet

Here's the original McDonald's commercial, featuring the McLobster:

And if it ever is, people have to be careful. Many are allergic to the imitation meat. The fast food places could never afford to pay for it.

Since I am vegan, I no longer eat seafood. However, I have memories of consuming lobster rolls when I lived in New England. I simply cannot imagine McDonalds ever producing anything like those. Next it will be McNathan's (kosher hot dogs).

While taking a ten day trip by air into Halifax and visiting Nova Scotia and Prince Edward  Island with  wife and twin daughters in 1992 , we experienced some of the creamiest ice cream we had ever experienced. Ever few miles out in the country even we ran into a small store selling the best ice cream cones, big ones for $1.50 Canadian. The very best of these was at Cow's on Prince Edward Island in the capital, Charlottetown where we absolutely had to buy the girls one of those hoodies and a shirt with the dancing cows and the caption on it. We also ran into 2 McDonald's , one in Charlottetown and I can't remeber where the other city was, that had McLobster sandwiches. They weren't like the one pictured , though. They were on a bun like a fish sandwich with tartar sauce and I believe a piece of lettuce although maybe not. they were not on a hot dog style bun like the one pictured. I told my friends and coworkers about it when I returned and they looked at me like I was a liar.  But Lobster is so plentiful there that it was possible. They were about the same as a Big Mac in price. We also went to Selkirk' s  Restaurant on Prince Edward Island and my wife and I stuffed ourselves on all-you-can-eat lobster there for $27.95 Canadian, less than $20 American. It was wonderful. They had seafood chowder, black mussels and corn on the cob also on the buffet, and a dessert table. We ate 15 lobsters between the two of us. We thought we were really pigging down, but just after we arrived, two petite women in heels and fancy dressses arrived, sat down with their boyfriends, ate 7 lobsters each , then polished it off with a huge piece of   pecan pie. then the guys let them take the Corvette that the guys had brought to the restaurant and the guys took the car the girls had brought. I guess it was girls night out.

I love lobster. No McLobsters around me though. Were they a nice hunk of lobster tail in a bun or some kind of lobster salad type of thing? Just curious.

They were a nice piece of lobster in a hamburger style bun. It wasn't a pressed breaded deep fried patty or anything like that . We also had a couple at other Mom and Pop restaurants along the road.

Thank God this isn't real. It probably would just be processed lobster parts molded into the shape of lobster anyway.

Please read my comment above about my trip to Nova Sotia and Prince Edward Island in 1992.. I believe every bit of it. i saw that Maine had harvested one of the best lobster crops ever at one of the highest prices ever per pound. I imagine the Atlantic provinces of Canada also did.

I had no idea that lobster was so plentiful. Apparently it is real, which is very surprising in a land where all my lobster is shipped to me. The area seems very nice and I hope to visit it one day.

McWhat?!?! CA born and bred, dungeness crab is my "lobster". Either should be served by Ronald and the Gang. Stop giving upscale and give us burgers, fries and shakes that is not McChined formed and made.

Could be quite good, as I experienced.

We get these in RI every summer and they are actually quite good; they are "basic" lobster rolls with lobster, mayonaise and celery with lobster claw meat on the top. Very tasty but a bit overpriced for McDonalds (if I recall last year they were almost 5 bucks).

The thought of either lobster or sushi being served in a McDonald's seems just completely sacrilegious to any and all good food.

The lobster industry is declining on the east coast as it is. Let's hope McD's doesn't
get their hands on it any more than they have.

Have a good friend who owns a very successful lobster brokerage. Still doing well,
but has seen a decline in the business over the past six years.

after watching video of how most fast food hamburger patties are made, i've been off of fast food for the past 6 months. must say, i'm feeling much better. trying to eat more fresh food, and less processed. i love salt/sugar, or it's been a challenge.

When I want beef I go to the butcher and ask for beef that has been hung for a minimum of 4 weeks (this ensures proper flavor), versus fast food beef which is hung for less than 24 hours before being processed.
