The Best Islands In The Caribbean For Bar-Hoppers (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 03/04/11 08:51 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

For many travelers, vacation is about spending time with your companions, sleeping, maybe even catching up on reading. For others, it's all about a party.

The Caribbean is a great place to blend the two passions: relax during the day, stay up well past bedtime at night. The islands of the Caribbean have a blend of salsa clubs and fancier affairs, as well as flip-flop beach bars and casual nighttime joints.

Fodors.com put together a list of their favorite beach bars scattered about the Caribbean. While many of the bars look lovely (and who wouldn't want to be on a tropical beach now?), there are so many more that do the trick (just thinking about Le Select in St. Barths screams Caribbean dive bar).

Check out their list below and send us your choice for favorite bars: From beach shacks to dance halls, we want to hear about it!

Aruba's waterfront bars beckon with great sunset views

The Scene
: They pump up the volume at Aruba's resort bars when the sun sets. Unlike many other islands, nightlife here isn't confined to touristy folkloric shows. In addition to catching nightly entertainment in one of the many casinos, you can slowly savor a drink while the sun dips into the sea, dance to the beat of a local band, bar-hop via a colorful party bus, or simply stroll along a deserted starlit beach. Arubans like to party--the more the merrier--and they usually start celebrating late in the evening.

Many of those Caribbean islands do have a great deal of history behind them, so if you like historic relics and buildings, you can find out what the historic interest spots are located, and take a tour into history.

What? No Saba Rock? We just got back 2 weeks ago from 8 days on a charter out of Sopers Hole. Did the whole bar hopping through Tortola, Yost, little yost, vg and anegada. Hands down best vacation weve ever had!

Hey, what about Key West? When you O.D. after about your third "Duval crawl" at least your health insurance will work at Monroe Co Hospital.

I can do a lot of bar hopping right here in Northeast Minneapolis. We have a bar, and a church, on every other street corner. I cannot scuba dive, snorkel, deep see fish and a hundred other things that they do down there, why would I want to go there to get hammered?

Love it. See my comment. Fanned and faved. I love Thailand too - and the Vietnamese. Gosh, I hope my wire transfer from Royal Bank of Scotland, Glasgow, from my ex-Aunt's legacy comes in soon in the next few days. I will be off to Phuket on a heartbeat. I am writing my 'bucket list' as my days are numbered due to pancreatic cancer. Damn! and I thought I was still a 'Peter Pan' at almost 60. Sheet.... anyway, Irie'. Have a cocktail on me. lol.

The Soggy Dollar on Jost in the BVI is a true classic but my personal favorites are The Hummingbird on St. Lucia is on the beach with a stunning view of the Pitons, Basil's Beach Bar on Mustique and Mullins Beach Bar on Barbados.

Hi Capt. I have to revisit Union bcuz I don't know one beach bar there. I have a fave on Carriacou but can't remember the name. Caribbean dreaming.
03:36 PM on 03/04/2011
I agree about the Soggy Dollar :) Mustique is such a small island but it sure does have some interesting people! I've never been to Hummingbord - Anse chastenet? I really like the Tides on Barbados for lunch/drinks. There are a lot of great ones there.

First time we went into Basils, Mick and Jerri came in and sat at the next table for 2.5 hours. VERY interesting !!! The Hummingbird is on the left & on the beach as soon as you leave Soufriere to drive out to Anse Chastanet, as soon as the road starts to climb. come to think of it, the beach bar at Anse Chastanet can be alot of fun too. I like the Tides too - I love Lone Star but it's more a beach restaurant than a beach bar.The owners of The Fish Pot ( my fave restaurant on Barbados ) bought the old Atlantis at Bathsheba, but it's not a beach bar. I miss the islands. sigh.

When I lived in Miami I used to take the 10 hr play ride to the bahamas to party and gamble all night and return home the next morning. Wkends jaunts to the Carribean were fast fun and worth every dime I lost drinking and hitting the casino's. I miss it.
01:24 PM on 03/04/2011
I'm an avid Caribbean cruiser, but I don't do a whole lot of bar-hopping. I tend to hit the museums, shop, then spend the rest of my time drinking and reading on a beach or poolside on the cruise deck.

Casino hopping sounds like fun.

I agree with the museum hopping, I don't usually shop on vacation, usually rent a scooter to buzz around the island. I don't do cruises, I prefer to fly and let the games begin.

Please do take note and not being sarcastic, but the Bahamas is not the Caribbean. Consult your geography book for correct placement. The Bahamas are located in the Atlantic Ocean. The Caribbean Islands are located in the Caribbean Sea. If you have a GPS learn how to use it or otherwise get a sextant and rely on the sun and the moon to navigate where you want to go.

so we should all stay home under the blankets with the lights turned off and a fire extinguisher at hand ? This is not our first crises, nor will it be our last.
