Diane Von Furstenberg Breaks Silence On Galliano: It 'Was Absolutely Unacceptable' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/07/11 01:11 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

Diane Von Furstenberg has finally weighed in on John Galliano's anti-Semitic remarks.

The designer told Gayle King, "As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, I find what he said was absolutely unacceptable. Having said that, I think he was provoked and he was clearly not in a normal state." When asked whether it was correct for Dior to fire Galliano, she said, "That's not for me to say."

Love Diane Von from the "strong woman" perspective and ability to build an iconic brand.
So many of her items become instant hits. For example these Opal Platform Wedges:

Galliano's video rant was stunning and revealed his deeply rooted feelings of antisemitism. Hate crimes have increased around the world in recent years; it always appears to be closely tied with hard economic times, when someone has to place blame on someone or something for their own short coming, and fears.

Perhaps "Dorothy" should don a gingham dress, tuck his braids under his bonnet, click his ruby red slippers and permanently disappear.

i hope he gets help with his addiction issues and his acceptance regarding his hate-spewing. don't forget the US Supreme court gave permission to the hate-spewers from the "Reverend hate" in Kansas to essentially do the same thing.
Q. has humanity stopped evolving?
A. doesn't seem like it.

I'm not defending anyone. I don't know the whole story. That said, I have been in arguments with people who have really pushed my buttons and I have said things, awful, ugly things that I didn't mean but were said to hurt the person who had made me so angry. Is it not possible that this could have been a similar case? Say something totally offensive in order to insult or wound your antagonist? Having someone filming the diatribe makes me wonder and question why they would be filming that at all. Just saying...

The thing is, this wasn't his first time.  I've said some disgusting things, too.  But disgusting rants against the same ethnic group, repeated on different occasions?  That says something about what he's got on his mind.

Ah, I did not know that.Thank you for the information. That does change my perception and understanding now.

Having had all my grandfather's Catholic relatives in Poland (save one brother who had the distinction/misfortune to be an experiment for Dr Mengele and survived) exterminated in Auschwitz, I find references to A.H. offensive and inappropriate, too. Why can't people just stop h8ing each other for being different? When are we going to evolve and become better than that? This just makes me very sad.

rants against the same ethnic group have, and are still being made, get over it!
The American Indian has been living with the white mans rants, lies and deceit since Plymouth rock, the ethnic group you have in mind have been part of the chorus.

John was provoked and who knows what else they said to him while the camera was off. Galliano will be back at DIOR.

Why do other designers have to say anything in regards to this? They're all basically saying the same thing...nothing new.

Nicely said.
