Libya Soldiers Killed For Refusing To Shoot Rebels, Video Claims (GRAPHIC FOOTAGE)

First Posted: 03/07/11 11:41 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:35 PM ET

A disturbing video surfaced on Monday allegedly showing Libyan soldiers who were killed for refusing to shoot rebels. Al Jazeera posted the video, and a source tells the news network that victims "were rounded-up, their legs tied before being shot in the head or back from close range."

A rebel group sent the footage to Al Jazeera. The video's authenticity has not been confirmed.

Libya is thought to be on the brink of civil war, as rebel groups struggle to oust Muammar Gaddafi after more than 40 years of rule. Gaddafi unleashed Libyan warplanes against rebels on Monday as part of a harsh counteroffensive.

Scroll down for the video, and check out Al Jazeera's coverage for more information.

my money is on qadhaafeee. He will win back all of West Libya within a week or two. And then he will get help from volunteers from neighboring countries. He will make a move on the East Libya by the end of the month. I give this little rebellion about 6 weeks before qadhaafee retakes his whole country.

Qadhaafee trained thousands of rebels for just such a purpose as this civil war........he had the "Islamic Legion". Tuareg people from Nijer, Mali, Algeria, Mauretania, Chad, Sudan, etc., and Qadhaafee has allies throughout the World who will secretly help him in a long drawn out civil war. I'm sure qadhaafee knew he would have to return to his roots as a tribal warrior. He just didn't know he'd have to battle the World media.

my money is on qadhaafee.

I'm glad your money isn't on your spell-checker. It's Gaddafi.

I bet the number of U.S. children being named Gaddafi is going to plummet after this whole mess.

That report is ten times better than any report we get on our American Corporate Krap TV. I agree with the late great George Carlin. . . We are a fading republic. Al Jazeera TV is straight forward news. Amazing.

Al Jazeera is news like the US used to produce. I grew up watching Walter Cronkite, because we could pick up the Bellingham WA TV station from Victoria BC. The man was the essence of honest journalism.

Now, Fox News has been trying to break into Canada. But before they could do that, they had to try to get our telecommunications rules softened such that any complaint about a broadcast would have to include proof that the broadcaster knew that the news was false AND that the lies spread could endanger the lives, health or safety of the public....Incredible! Tens of thousands of us have petitioned the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission to prevent that. So far so good.

If this is what Gaddafi's men are fighting for they'll likely get what they deserve, from the rebels or their boss himself.

Let the Libyians have their own battle.

USA does NOT need to get involved. Stay OUT!

We have enough problems of our own.

In Africa you have African Union troops who are peace keepers in several countries. The AU peacekeepers are from several African countries.

I've never seen an Arab willing to be a peacekeeper in Arab countries that are at war.

Let Arabs settle their own problems.

Of course in war all incendiary press is suspect... or does the Iraqi's taking babies out of incubator and leaving them to die as a PR firm ploy not ring a bell... demonization of the enemy is the way each side wages the pr wars.

f*ck the oil.

It's time for Americans to develop a non gasoline vehicles.

Screw the oil companies greed
07:38 PM on 03/08/2011
Oil runs more than cars. Its in just about everything you buy and modern agriculture is the process of turning oil into food. For every calorie of food it takes 10 calories of oil to produce it. So ether way they got a hold of us in away that its impossible to shake. This is unfortunately just the beginning. Protests are scheduled in Saudi Arabia on the 11th. If the Saudi government opens fire on the protesters like they promise to well its going to get worse.

So my question to everyone here that is against any foreign intervention/support: If (and very likely when) the rebel forces get decimated... are you going to just shrug your shoulders and say "oh well, thats the way the cookie crumbles"?

I can't speak for anyone else, but we have millions of people right here in the USA that have lost jobs, homes, health insurance, etc... it's not about helping other countries, it's about priorities. Our own country and it's people are on the ropes right now and like any other family, you take care of your own first.

There are ways to deal with Gaddafyi without our having to engage in yet another conflict. We can do it if we want to but it takes imagination and daring. Some of the same kind of daring that we always see in the movies. There has always been this idea or whatever that we have in our military "Elite forces"  Special ops groups if you will. Now would be a good time to see if they have all these abilities and are really as elite as they make out or are merely BS and fables. Why do with a Chainsaw what you can do with a stilleto.
06:24 PM on 03/08/2011
This is terrible news, but keep in mind that Kadhafi's military is not alone in this.
All armies in the world will punish people for not obeying direct orders to kill what are perceived to be the enemy. It was not all that long ago that all western militaries would as often as not shoot people for not obeying orders. Often on the spot.

Even our own military can and will do this in a state of War. They can legally get away with it.

If an American soldier refuses to fire at the enemy. I'm sure that soldier would be fragged by his own men.
If you refuse orders in the midle of a battle i believe you can be shot at least thats what they used to do.

Video from rebels? How do we know that it was not the rebels killing Gaddafi loyalists? Either way, it is unacceptable, but I won't quickly accept the conclusion that the killing was perpetrated by Gaddafi loyalists. When people are desperate for outside help, they will use all types of tactics to garner sympathy and outside support. Don't ever forget that 15 year old Kuwaiti girl, who was actually a member of the Kuwaiti royal family, that claimed that she witnessed Iraqi soldiers killing new born babies in incubators, in a hospital, by unplugging the power cords to the machine, among other horrific acts. As we now know, it was all fabricated. See here: http://www.prwatch.org/books/tsigfy10.html Go to the follwoing section if you do not want to read the whole story: "Suffer the Little Children."

We have been fooled too many times to fall for anything again. Incubator babies and WMDs are enough! Until there is an independent fact-finder, I will not believe anything the rebels have to say. After all, they are not innocent of killing innocent civilians, a.k.a., merceneries, themselves.
07:23 PM on 03/08/2011
Good point but you dont have evidence to validate your claim either. My personal opinion; I believe the rebels to be the lesser of 2 evils because of the chance of democracy. But who knows what kind of government system will be put in place if they do succeed. Warring nations will occur causalties on both sides. If it is propaganda, then it's very clever and I don't blame them.

The claim, if I read this right has been validated.  The girl lied.  The Kuwaiti's hired a PR firm to lie to the American public.  And not one conservative got upset when the truth was revealed around the world, not one.  But as far as propaganda goes, yes there is and will be propaganda. But it is we, the people of America that need to be cautious as the majority of world propaganda is now directed at keeping Americans from taking to the streets about the wealth that was stolen over the last 30 years.

Qadhaafee will take back his country from the rebels piece by piece. America and Europe be prepared to accept thousands of refugees from Libya. Those rebels are gonna need a new place to call home cause Qadhaafee ain't to fond of traitors.
