LOS ANGELES — The New York Times' dramatic 8,500-word story about the April 20, 2010, oil rig explosion off Louisiana's Gulf Coast, which killed 11 people and led to the worst spill in U.S. history, is being made into a movie.

Summit Entertainment, Participant Media and Imagenation Abu Dhabi said Tuesday that they have acquired the film rights to the article, "Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour," published on Dec. 25 and written by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul.

Matthew Sand will write the screenplay. Talks are ongoing to have "Transformers" producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura produce the project under his Di Bonaventura Pictures banner.

Summit, the studio behind the "Twilight" franchise, said the film will portray the heroism of Deepwater's crew and evoke the raw emotion depicted in the newspaper piece.

Ugh, this is going to be a disaster, sure a film is better than no film.

But when you tell me the creators of Twilight are doing this, they are trying to get a loser from Transformers, and it is funded by UAE (ie OIL) money, and they say:
"film will portray the heroism of Deepwater's crew and evoke the raw emotion depicted in the newspaper piece."

I guess this will be just about the explosion.

Will they make heros of the dead, will they say their names?

Will they show how BP tried to isolate and intimidate the survivors?

Will. they dramatise the PR room at BP were they hatched on how to coverup the spill for as long as they could?

It'll be interesting to see which side these movie makers are on: (1) the truth or (2) the BS that the oil industry has put out that the damage is all gone and it wasn't all that bad to start with.

Well it's being funded by "Imagenation Abu Dhabi"

And a bunch of other rich people.

I wouldn't be suprised if BP and the AIP is behind this film too.

A lot of money for an 8,500 word article. Who gets the money, the reporters or the paper?

The title should be
The Abyss II
"Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour,"

Wow Really? A movie to cover up that this may not have been accidental? That the eviction of the gulf coast was planned prior to the spill?

Hmmmmm

Looks like that wonderful propagandized/patriotic Flight 93 movie.

Well, this is one part of the story. But I'd prefer the ongoing 'What about the Oil?' Documentary myself.

Hmm, show be interesting and informative if it doesn't drift away from the article. Little is known about the people that died and survived that explosion which is just a pity.

More info on BPOilSpill+ sick. This comes from many sources. Some people disagree about the cause. Some people even still deny it is happening. We have to keep those tourists coming and people spending money to buy seafood. But this is not debatable. These are sick people who need help. Someone has to listen. Something should be done.

This references Robin Young of Alabama. She is a friend of my daughter Robyn. They have both been poisoned. Young has been doing the work. She traveled between Alabama and my property in New Orleans to work for recognition and meet with officials. Article also refers to NOLA attorney Stuart Smith.

Staying well and avoiding sickness and accidents and having health care to treat pain is important. For years, people have been trying to make it easier to get. It just kept getting more and more expensive and harder and harder to get. Then the country got an Affordable Health Care Bill. And, sure it was a compromise. But, forget that. NOW, people are sick and dying as documented above and there are more from other situations. Something is very wrong.

I was thinking the oil rig might fold into a machine that sucks all the oil out of the water - and looks like Megan Fox.
