I live 1 block from the Redondo Beach pier, and everything seems normal, though haven't actually gone down to the beach yet, though...

It was a foot or so, only visible if you were right down at the beach and watched closely.

Thanks. I hear helicopters though, hopefully it's just regular crime and not more dead fish. (I'm wondering if that was somehow connected to what's going on now....)

Not much happening on Broad Beach, Malibu. Santa Monica is the same.

Local news hyperventilating...

From a helicopter reporter: "Well, I guess one of the waves has already come ashore. It wasn't anything as big as we had hoped to see...."

Looks like my reply disappeared.

Yes, hoped. Can you believe it? Dude was flying over Ventura.

After working in TV News fo awhile, I tend to watch rather closely.

That probably came off unintentionally callous but he's right... locals are salivating at the chance for some good waves in Southern California.

I hope the authorities are correct and know what they are doing. My husband works in Venice Beach and I feel a little nervous about this, but they said no evacuations are taking place.

Not even remotely... waves are minimal from what I hear... at least along PCH around Huntington Beach.  Zero chance of evacuations.

a block from the beach, notta. but you should see all the tourists who are waiting for the wave of death.

When I grew up in Santa Monica, we defined 'tourist" as anyone living east of the 405.

It s not necessarily the incoming wave that does the most damage, but the back wash when it goes back out. Dragging everything not tied down with it.

That's what I hear... beaches are closed in Orange County.  Boss usually hits the waves in the morning before coming to the office but was less than impressed.
