Police Hunt Suspect in Midtown Beauty Salon Murder

MIDTOWN -- A Queens woman was stabbed to death in a Midtown beauty salon near Macy's Herald Square Thursday afternoon and police were hunting her suspected killer.

Denise Kenny, 41, of Rockaway Park, was killed in D'Galina's Salon Spa at 161 West 35th St., police said. Authorities were looking for Michael Kenny, 42. It wasn't immediately clear whether the two were married, though they lived together.

Michael Kenny allegedly came by the beauty salon at roughly 3:31 p.m., and then he and Denise Kenny went to an upstairs part of the shop where they got into a heated argument, police said.

He then allegedly stabbed her repeatedly, police said. Michael Kenny then allegedly raided the salon's cash register, according to the NYPD.

Salon workers told the New York Post that after the Kennys went upstairs, they could be heard arguing loudly. Then they reportedly heard a scream.

Michael Kenny then reportedly came downstairs and salon owner Leo Pinkhasov, 51, told the New York Post "he looked at me with crazy eyes."

Pinkhasov then went upstairs and found the woman slumped over in a bathroom, the Post reported.

A substance that appeared to be blood could be seen smeared on a wall inside the salon, which is across the street from Macy's.

Salon workers told the Post their co-worker had been fighting with Kenny and wanted him to move out.

Denise Kenny was taken to Bellevue Hospital where she was pronounced dead, fire officials said.

Anyone with information on Michael Kenny's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
